I have today off, which is a very nice thing indeed. I've mostly been puttering at the new neighborhood, but eventually I decided I should probably head out and take care of some errands. While I was out, I stopped at Best Buy and picked up Mansion & Garden Stuff.

I figured I would install it now before I get too far into making the sims for the neighborhood. Upon arriving home, I set about backing up everything I had so far and even went so far as to start putting the disc in when I realized that I was forgetting one crucial issue.

Nothing is updated for it yet. Specifically, SimPE is not updated for it yet. And I still need that to finish up the transfer of sims (I'm not going to write down all their interests and such when I can just pop open two instances of SimPE and compare old and new neighborhoods).

Crap on a stick.

Well, I've got this shiny new box on my desk winking at me as I grumble and continue plugging away at the new hood. I will have those new hairstyles. I will have them!

FIRST COMMENT!

Just think of it as a reward for hard work re-building the neighborhood. Maybe gift wrap it and put a glitter Christmas/Chanukah tag on it for yourself. Maybe you can get an early Christmas/Chanukah gift.

Well, at least you realized before you installed.

You want the hair; I want the quartertile cheat and the roofslopeangle tool. But things I keep hearing are putting me off of this pack a little bit. I wonder if EA will end up patching it.

I'm sure they will. From what I've been able to gather, M&G is almost a mini-expansion pack. With the building cheats it adds and the new animations, it does more than most of the other stuff packs do.

Some of the stuff I heard made me worry a little bit, but I've never had a problem (knock on wood) installing new stuff. And while I don't want to discount problems anyone is having or forgive bugs that really should have been fixed before release, but there tends to be a Chicken Little effect with Sims2 stuff. A few people have a problem, complain really loudly, and suddenly the community has their pitchforks and torches pointed in EA's direction again.

PHEW. At least you stopped yourself from installing it in time, right? I've heard about some unpleasant glitches with Mansion and Garden Stuff, including something about it only running from its own disk and not from the latest EP. But I'm sure they'll work out the mod soon enough. And you certainly didn't want to install it and find out that there were IKEA-like problems before it was too late.

It's more like its own mini-Expansion Pack rather than a traditional stuff pack. That's why it has to run from its own disk rather than the last EP disk. It offers some new building cheats/tools as well as a few new animations.

Like I told Lea, I've been hearing some of the concerns, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I'd have everything back up and I've never had any problems installing new eps or sps (knock on wood). I factor a little of the Chicken Little Effect into the release of a new thing for Sims2. A few people have a problem and suddenly it's a conspiracy by EA to screw everyone over.

That's a bummer to have to wait but at least you'll have a double reward once you are done rebuilding right? And maybe EA will have released a quick fix (or MATY will) so you won't have to worry about any new glitches.

I'm really excited for this mini-EP. The new stuff is cool and the new animations will be fun. Someone must make a hack to allow us to direct our sims to slide down the stairs. I'm having wonderful visions of Ferd and Mag sliding down twin spiral staircases at the same time while wearing their wizard robes... But I'm going to wait and see if I get it for Christmas before I head out and buy it.

I hope that you get to install it soon!

I guess that'll be your reward to yourself for finishing your rebuild!

I'm less concerned about the hairstyles and more craving the STAIR SLIDING OMG. (STAIR SLIDING: the new PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT).

Apparently simPE has been updated but Inge is holding its release as a bribe for staying in the MATY senate. Voting closed today and was a tie so she should be publishing it now-ish!

I have installed M&G and haven't found it to be especially buggy so far. There is a securom free no cd crack already. I haven't explored it fully but the plants are nice - lupins yay! The Moroccan stuff looks a bit garish. The architecture stuff has its own category. I think it is quite a good stuff pack all in all.

Fake edit - yay simPE update! http://www.simlogical.info/SimPE/SimpeMGUpdate/SimpeMGUpdate.htm

LOL.. okay, that's more MATY political BS than I really wanted to know, but that's still pretty funny. Yay for updates when we need them. Now Numenor needs to update AGS and I will be a happy camper.

Sorry *mutters* must remember what happens on MATY stays on MATY! :)

I haven't used the AGS, I don't create so figured it wouldn't be that useful to me. I'm sure an update won't be long though. As far as I'm aware all my other hacks appear to be working ok. I stupidly installed before using simPE to sort out some family relationships, so had to resort to Insim which I never normally use. I was pleasantly surprised that the family trees were adjusted too.

I like using InSim for most things. SimPE intimidates me a bit. I figure there are some things it'll be easier having a hood by hood comparison of, though, which can only be done in SimPE. :)

I didn't even know SimPE had to be updated for Stuff Packs. Do hacks have to be too? I thought it was just for EPs. The fun stuff you learn every day.

M&G Stuff isn't really a stuff pack. It's not big enough to be an expansion pack, but it has more code with it than any other stuff pack has. It provides new animations and other new things in addition to the items (smell flowers, slide down banisters, solar panels and windmills reduce bills, etc.).

Because of that, I didn't want to take a chance on SimPE being borked. In most cases, you can get away with running the last EP version of SimPE with a newer SP. In this case, I didn't want to chance it.

I don't think enough core files changed to require other hack updates, though.

Just out of curiosity, did you transfer all your BC guys to the new 'hood? I always like behind the scenes stuff, and seeing the boys walking into your shots was amusing. Like I said, more of an idle curiosity.
