Finally, something that doesn't involve the Sims!

I've been pondering getting a new bed for quite a while. The one I have is in pretty poor shape and it was a hand-me-down when I got it. It gets the job done and I don't have constant back pain or anything, but I know from sleeping in good beds that I'm missing out on a really good night's sleep.

Last summer when I went to GenCon, we stayed at the Westin which had amazing beds. Also this summer, I dog sat for some friends who have one of those super forming foam beds. That was also pretty damn cool. I can't afford either of those options, but I would like to get closer.

The problem is, I've never shopped for a mattress and box spring and I'm a little leery of dropping that much money on one purchase like that. I went to a local mattress store (Metro Mattress) and they have a Simmons BeautyRest 'Montano' pillowtop on sale that looks like it's a good deal. It was also quite comfy. They say it's normally about $1150 but it's on sale for $800. The sale is 'while supplies last', which irks me a bit.

Are any of you fine folks out there reading this experts on buying mattresses? :)

I just bought new mirarest mattresses this fall since I was also sleeping on a bed that was a hand-me-down from my grandparents and it had sat in their basement for guests to use for probably as long as I've been alive. Both of them are pillow tops and I think they are really comfortable. The trick with the pillow tops is that you do have to rotate them frequently (mine said every two weeks) or they will get a dent in them fairly quickly (I'm too lazy to rotate them even every month). Of course I didn't notice it had a dent in it until I rotated it and slept on the other side.
