Finally, something that doesn't involve the Sims!

I've been pondering getting a new bed for quite a while. The one I have is in pretty poor shape and it was a hand-me-down when I got it. It gets the job done and I don't have constant back pain or anything, but I know from sleeping in good beds that I'm missing out on a really good night's sleep.

Last summer when I went to GenCon, we stayed at the Westin which had amazing beds. Also this summer, I dog sat for some friends who have one of those super forming foam beds. That was also pretty damn cool. I can't afford either of those options, but I would like to get closer.

The problem is, I've never shopped for a mattress and box spring and I'm a little leery of dropping that much money on one purchase like that. I went to a local mattress store (Metro Mattress) and they have a Simmons BeautyRest 'Montano' pillowtop on sale that looks like it's a good deal. It was also quite comfy. They say it's normally about $1150 but it's on sale for $800. The sale is 'while supplies last', which irks me a bit.

Are any of you fine folks out there reading this experts on buying mattresses? :)

We just bought a foam mattress from Costco (http://www.costco.com/Common/Search.aspx?whse=BC&topnav=&search=foam%20mattress&N=0&Ntt=foam%20mattress&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-US). Granted it's a king size, but it was the price of the one you're saying is on sale. We don't have a box spring for it either, just a bed frame from Ikea. We'd had a hand-me-down before as well, and although it was a good mattress (it wasn't very old when it was passed on), but I can't tell you how much better I'm sleeping now. It was amazing. Like night and day. It took a night or so to get used to it, but I'm so glad we made the investment. One nice thing about Costco, is their return policy. If you get it and hate it, you can always take it back. Now, getting a foam mattress back to the store after it's inflated might be a little tricky, but you can still do it if you need to. I figured lots of duct tape, garden bags, and big guy manhandling. Good luck!

Unfortunately, we don't have a Costco around here. We've got BJs and Sams Club and I know BJs doesn't have mattresses like that. I originally looked there. Cest la vie. :)
