Anansi Boys

I just finished reading Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. I absolutely loved it. It made me laugh out loud at several points. Here's one particular line that got me:

His name is Marcus; he is four and a half and possesses that deep gravity and seriousness that only small children and mountain gorillas have ever been able to master.

(If anyone has met Lorelei, they'd know exactly what he's talking about. She possesses that quality. And at two and a half!)

I think I liked it better than American Gods, but then there parts of that book where I thought I was missing something. As if my lack of understanding of mythology and theology was limiting my grasp of the book to a minor degree. I never got that in Anansi Boys.

Like quite a few books, I kept picturing it as if it were being made into a movie. I think I'd cast Mos Def as Fat Charlie and Spider. Maybe Taye Diggs, but I'm not sure how well he'd do with this type of material.

Eitherway, I recommend it. Cori, you can borrow it from me, but I promised it to TJ first. :)

I loooved Anansi Boys. It's been a while since American Gods (there it is in my icon!) but I think I like AB better. I really need to make a lime icon. :D

... and if you want to see it as a movie, start learning Polish and forget that not all the characters are caucasian:

If Neil's links to the trailer don't work, see the comments below for alternates -- also translations from Polish. :)

I have Neil's journal LJ feed going to my friends list, so I saw that yesterday. :) Even if the actors weren't the right races, it was still cute.

I would love to see a movie of it. I think of the three Neil Gaiman books I've read, it would translate the best. I've read Neverwhere, American Gods, and now Anansi Boys. Oh.. and I've read the Sandman series, thanks to Scott (who happens to be Cori's hubby).

The Neverwhere miniseries was enjoyable.

On the other hand, I was downright embarassed when I watched A Short Film About John Bolton. Sooo tedious.

... *blinks at Gaiman on IMDB* He wrote the English adaptation of Mononoke? And one of my fave B5 eps? Cool!

Yeah, it's this one.

It's a major challenge to get your skin THAT white even though you're wearing black clothes. :D At least the wig covered up my back, so I didn't have to paint that (and by extension, the driver's seat of my car...)
