Okay, so I just finished 'Half-blood Prince'. ARGH!!
Of course the damn book made me tear up at the end. I'm a sap to begin with and there are some tough scenes there at the end. ARGH!
So now, I've got questions that won't be answered until she finishes writing the next book, which probably won't happen for another two years.
Okay, so I was pretty sure who was going to die when Dumbledore and Harry went off to find the Horcrux. I didn't know how or why, but somehow I knew that Dumbledore was the one. I'd always thought that he would be one of the casualties eventually, but it still took me hard when it happened.
And of course, that opens up so many questions about Snape. Was Dumbledore truly begging Snape to kill him? And for what purpose? Just to make sure Harry believed that Snape was evil? Or is Snape truly evil and took advantage of the situation.
My thoughts? Snape is not evil and was as forced into killing Dumbledore as Harry was in feeding Dumbledore the potion on the underground island. Throughout his flight from the school with Harry chasing him, he never once took the opportunity to harm Harry, which I think he would have, no matter what Voldemort declared about Harry's death being his. If Snape was truly evil, he could have hurt Harry bad. Not to mention he stopped Harry several times from casting some of the unforgiveable curses.
If I had read the book a bit slower, I probably would have picked up on Snape being the half-blood prince. Duh on my part.
Anyway... Now what to read. *sigh* :)

I have a theory
Date: 2005-07-25 04:03 am (UTC)Anyhow, it seems to me pretty obvious that the last piece of the soul is in Harry himself, and its visible sign is the lightning bolt scar. After all, we know V had just killed someone, and it explains why Harry survived the encounter.
So this leads me to think that Harry will have to either die, lose his magic, or -think- he is going to die or lose his magic, in order to ultimately end the menace that is V. Personally, I think it would be rather cool for Harry to lose all his magic at the end of the series, and then re-open Hogwarts.
I like your idea. It makes me think of that old film Dragonslayer, in which the wizard seemed to die, but it was really just a way for him to not have to bother with all that messy travel across country. Not that he let his apprentice in on the plan, so we all thought the wizard was dead until the end.

Date: 2005-07-25 01:55 pm (UTC)I also would not be surprised if Dumbledore was not truly dead. Perhaps that's why he had requested that he be buried at Hogwarts. With as central as the school has been (it's almost a character unto itself), it would make sense for it to still play an important part in the final installment of the series.
But, as I said before, ARGH! :)
