Belated Sunday Picspam - Dormie Style
Dec. 29th, 2008 02:51 pmWell, I'd feel odd calling it a Christmas Present, but I do have something to share.

(Click on the picture for the link.)
The majority of the pictures were taken over a month ago around Thanksgiving while I was in the middle of the rebuild. I needed a break, so figured I'd go for it. After that, though, I was more interested in the rebuild and getting what I needed for Pseudo 4.9. With Christmas, though, I'd occasionally find I had time to Sim, but not enough to work on anything major for the Legacians.
So, you get a new Dormie Guide. Yay!

Last night, De asked me how long it took me to do this. Honestly, if I had nothing else to do, I could easily get one of these out in a day or less. I've got a teleporter from Paladin's Place that breaks the menus down so they're really easy to navigate. Rather than just a name, it gives a thumbnail picture. The dormies get their own category, so it's easy to see all 50 right there.
All I need to do is send my pack mule (in LFT's case it was Stella Terrano) to the shoot location, get my first guinea pig, set my camera, and then keep summoning the sims. As I take their picture, I pull up their personality, aspiration, zodiac, and their genetics. Gotta love the SimDNA cheat.
Of course, there are occasional issues to deal with. Like it suddenly starting to rain.

For the most part, I try and kept the sims to the same blank expression for their picture. Occasionally, though, I'd let a smile or a cocky tilt of the shoulders slip through because it added a little something extra.
While the dormies get their own category, all the NPCs are lumped in with the rest of the NPCs. For the most part, this is no problem because it's easy to pick out the llamas, cows, and cheerleaders from that mess.

The hard part comes in trying to find the streakers. There's really no way to tell from a thumbnail whether or not an NPC is a streaker. The best I could do was a process of elimination. I'd scroll through looking at the thumbnails and determine whether or not I knew what type of NPC that sim was. If I couldn't figure out what type of NPC they were, I'd summon them to the lot.
Once they were there, I took a look at their personality. If they had a modified personality that gave them high outgoing, I'd then take the next step. I'd make them naked.
IF they really were a streaker, they'd stay naked. If they weren't, they'd change back into their clothes as soon as they got free will back.
Yay for exhibitionism!

While I was on the campus quad getting most of the dormies pictures, I finally got to witness the Unsavory Charlatan in full scheme mode. I'd seen him before, but I'd never actually witnessed him pick-pocketing anyone. This poor little pop sim got to be his first and only sucker in this neighborhood.

So, let's talk about the pretty factor. I was surprised at the number of 'pretty' sims running around LFT. Seriously, if I were to start a Prettacy tomorrow, LFT would be my university without question. I have a hard time telling the difference between faces one and two, but I'm pretty sure all ten sims above come from those templates (maybe not tie-dye dude, but he's still close).
It's more than just the face-ones and face-twos, though. Some of my favorite faces are really well represented. There's at least four sims with the Meadow face, there's the Parker Parker face on a red headed girl, and plenty more that I've grown to love. Sure, there are a few of the 'ape' faces (all mostly family sims it seemed, poor things), but for the most part, there were very few sims I'd hesitate to marry in to my families.
And the recessives! Oh lordy the recessives. While I haven't done a side-by-side comparison, there really seemed to be so much more red hair at LFT. There was also a respectable amount of recessive eyes. The other thing that surprised me was how few dye jobs there were at LFT. Only Tie-Dye Dude dyes his hair. No hidden brunettes trying to have more fun as a blond.

Another thing that struck me was the number of Goopy Faced Girls. Over in SSU, I've got X-man, one fake-blond dormie, and Whitney the Cheerleader, but that's about it. At LFT, I'm pretty sure there are at least five, maybe six girls with the Goopy Template (I might be wrong about green sweatsuit girl, but there's one other one I found that might fit).
Honestly, I'd never spent too much time thinking about LFT. I'd always chosen SSU or ALT as my uni. Now I'm wishing I'd picked LFT. There's bunches of sims in there I would have loved to have available in my hood.

Christmas night I had a little more time to play, but was tired enough that I didn't want to get into shooting the scenes I needed for 4.9. So, Alpha and Beta got played for a little while. They're still not through their Freshman year, but they're close.

I'm honestly not sure how far ahead I want to play them. They are older than most of gen five, but they're not THAT much older. They're also not actually related to most of the Legacinas. They're first cousins with the Thompsons, but that's about it. Comet was only Victoria's step-daughter, so there's no blood relation there.
Both of them have genetics I definitely want to see pop up. Beta has those alien eyes and the big pointed ears while Alpha has the green skin as well as recessive alien eyes and blond hair.
But do I want to hold them back until the little kids are all headed off to college?

They don't necessarily want to wait. While visiting the campus lounge, they met Jane Stacks. Jane is one of several girls that Beta has two bolts for.

She's also the ONLY girl I've found that Alpha has any bolts for so far.
This could get complicated. Being twins, they've shared most everything while growing up, but this is something they're probably not going to want to take turns with.
As a side note, I gave Jane a make-over, but I forgot to take pictures. Allegra Gorey and Joshua Rubin also got make-overs. Maybe next time I'll have some pictures.

Meanwhile, life continues on as normal at school.

Did you know that sims can autonomously take their picture in a photobooth? I didn't.
I've got a photobooth in their dorm for the occasional ACR inspired indiscretion. So far, the only sim to have used it is this girl. She pulled one of the dormie guys in with her and then later went back to have her picture taken. She also stalks Beta, but he's not really interested.

Finally, I close with a random picture that may or may not be from a set I'll be using to shoot the final scene in 4.9. Dun dun dun.
I'm still hoping to have it out by New Years, but we shall see. :)
