The rebuilding is still in progress. It's definitely not going as fast as I would hope, but then I'm handling it in the way only I know how. On one hand, I'm fairly organized and methodical, but on the other, I'm impatient and impulsive, so I've had to backtrack a couple of times to fix things I should have tested before hand. That's okay, though. It's me and it's how I work.
I ran into an issue that I thought was a huge problem. Family relationships weren't quite coming out as smoothly as I'd hoped with InSim. The family tree was showing up properly, but cousins weren't recognizing cousins and a couple of siblings had disturbing boltage for one another (and it wasn't Aeric and Venus).

First, I wanted to complain about some teen swimsuits I found. These are from Xandher at TSR. When I first saw them, I thought, "Oh! Those are cute!" So, I snagged the set from the booty.
Booty indeed. From the front, they're adorable. From the back, I don't know a father alive who would allow his daughter out in a bikini cut like that. All of them had that cut. Even the one-piece suit. *grumble* I'm still debating whether to keep them or not. On one hand, they're useless for most of my sims, but then again, there's a few that would prefer them.
Like Raleigh. She thinks this suit is really hot and she's determined to keep it. Raleigh is a mean romancer and probably my favorite of Sophie and Orlando Thompson's kids. She's also sporting my favorite new hair from M&G Stuff.

"This is all your fault!"
"Oh for the love of.. just shut it, Mom."
Anyway, the rebuild continues. It's funny how even though they're technically different sims, my perceptions and their personality points just makes them FIT with what I expect of them. Zoey immediately started arguing with Persephone. Now, mind you, Persephone has more nice points than most of the rest of her family put together, but she never took crap from her mother. She was nice, but she had a backbone. And somehow, that translated straight over to the new hood.

And Zoey is still exactly the same, even in my third creation of her. She and Vic were always fiercely loyal to one another, but merciless in tormenting one another.
As I said above, I thought I had a problem with InSim not working properly, so I tried another run through on creating the sims (I'd saved a back-up of the hood pre-sim creation, so it wasn't a complete do-over). It turns out that sometimes you have to exit and re-enter a lot to get some relationships to click into place. And even then, sometimes they don't.

Of course, not all relationships were that hard to click back into place. InSim helped bump up their relationship score, but the romancing was all 'old fashioned'.

And some don't even need my help. Even though they only had one bolt at this point, Matthew and Persephone decided to prove to me that ACR still works just fine.
With a lullaby.
GAH. Luckily there's easy ways to take care of that without too much fuss. They made me feel a little guilty, but they're supposed to be elders. There's no way I could work in another pregnancy for them at this stage.

Even in CAS, Micah is fashion challenged.
I created all of gen two and three as adults in case that helped with the family connections. It doesn't seem to matter to InSim, but still. Random but methodical, so all of them come in as adults.

"You mean I get to marry him!?"
Genesis was a little excited when she was brought in and introduced to Micah. They never had the most spectacular boltage, but they were still always a devoted couple.

"Wait, I have to become a zombie? Why do I have to become a zombie!?"
Heather, on the other hand, was a little distraught at the changes she was going to have to make to join the family.

"It's okay, don't worry about it. I get to be a werewolf, you get to be a zombie, we raised an alien daughter together and our stolen son is something else completely. It just works. Besides, I think zombies are sexy. REALLY sexy."
"Oh, in that case..."

I used InSim to change both Heather and Brody and it worked really well. Heather gets to keep her original personality instead of the messed up zombie personality, but I'd given her some perosnality points back anyway. With Brody, I'm hoping the InSim version of werewolf will adjust his personality back to werewolf slobbiness, but I won't know that until I play him for a bit. Right now, he has his original Gemini personality.

As far as the rest of the family goes, they're settling in nicely. I ended up giving Aeric the white version of his hair since he's supposed to have 'custom' hair from Grimlock. That's the hair that Moon inherited as well. When I actually get to playing, I'll switch his hair back to the blond, I think.

Star and Moon get along relatively well, despite Star's lack of nice points. They did this completely on their own. Though, Star did tease Moon first.
I think the two of them look ALOT a like, but with different skin coloring. I kind of wish that Moon had gotten Aeric's gray skintone. Neither of the girls is carrying it. Venus is alien/s1, while Moon is s1/alien.
I still need to find a decent all-ages white hair for Moon that will show off her ears. I might have to fiddle with a Nouk hair to see if I can recolor it to work for her. Nouk hairs tend to be good about showing off the elf ears.

Speaking of Star's lack of nice points, she's not the only one in the house lacking.

"Whaaat?"
Moon has 10 nice points. That's more than everyone else in her house put together and that's including Heather and her unaltered points. I really can't wait to play this house and see how that shakes out.

Now for just some random cuteness. This is Noah and Caleb, two of Jeremiah's boys.

I LOVE that they can autonomously start 'classic dancing' together. Charlie and Vic still make me smile like an idiot.

Of course, they're not the only thing in the hood that makes me smile like an idiot. Ah Christian. It's no wonder Micah has no fashion sense, but I miss your finger guns.

CUTENESS!! I'm still not telling you who their parents are, though.

This is one of the new wolves in the hood. I think she (or maybe he, I can't tell yet) might be my new Allegra. Her name? It's Kawaii. I about died when I saw that.

Since it's a new start, I decided to give my simself a makeover. I added a tiny bit of make-up. Even though I don't wear it, female sims just look a little odd without it on the default skins. The hair is also new. It's one of the Maxis store hairs, but it seemed to work.

Still a pleasure sim, though!

One of the things I've been enjoying as I play around getting the new hood set up are experiments in CAS. Did you ever wonder what Jeremiah and Nathaniel would look like as girls? Well, I did.
I understand now why Kiley is so gorgeous. Micah and Genesis make lovely girls. I think the guys are quite handsome, but they are definitely unique. I've also done this with a few other sims, but these two were the most markedly different.
I've also been 'cheating' and seeing what the kids are going to look like as adults. Those I'm not going to share, though. :)

Finally, here's my new Downtown. I'm rather proud of it so far.
This is the Desiderata terrain. I raised up everything but the beach road two clicks and that seemed to fix any flooding issues. I imported most of my modified downtown lots and added a few others (like Simms Chinese Theater and the 'Alley Warehouse' set). I also snuck in a few other community lots to fill in space (there's now an H&M in this town.).
Eventually I'll make a couple of community beach lots. I'm also deciding which apartmetns I want to add to the city. I definitely want some, but I have to be pretty happy with an apartment to want to use it. I don't like being restricted on building options. :}
Anyway, there you go. It's coming along. I should be able to have an update out sometime before Christmas, but we'll see. Things will start getting busier here on out. It was nice having this four-day weekend (Happy Belated Turkey Day to anyone who celebrates it), but now it's back to work. :)

Date: 2008-12-01 02:48 am (UTC)I love your downtown. You're making me want to do a neighborhood terrain surgery on mine so that I can fix it the way I want it.
In other news, I had totally forgotten that Heather was originally a blonde.

Date: 2008-12-01 04:35 am (UTC)I'm really happy with the new downtown. I got all the lots nestled in close to one another and even went through and touched most of them up to include stuff from the latest expansions. The one half of the park now has playground equipment while the other has basketball and a rollerskating rink. I also went around and added in the stuff for the living statue and the breakdancer to show up.
And yes, Heather was originally a blond. In fact, she's Di's Beth. :)
