This post is a bit of a reference for myself since I'm tired of having to search MATY when I need to remember the cheat. I also figured that other people might find it useful as well.

Have you ever noticed how the lighting in some downtown lots is really very dark? Even if there are plenty of lights around, they don't seem to illuminate everything like they should.

For example...

Basically, from what I understand after going to MATY about this, Nightlife's has some lots that come with a different lighting file. It's intended to make them look dark and mysterious. Essentially, no overhead lights work at all. You can place as many as you want and they won't affect anything in the room. This drove me absolutely nuts when I had to shoot pictures in Kirstial's house which was downtown.

All you need to do to fix it is type this in the cheat window: setLotLightingFile clear

That's it. It resets the lot's lighting file so that it's treated like any other lot. I try and remember to do it on all my downtown lots now.

That's great! Now, is there a way to reset it to mysterious mode? What's the LightingFile that does it in the first place?

I'm always learning about this game...

I think there is a way to reset it. Go to MATY and do a search on 'downtown lighting'. One of the first links will be a post by me called.. dun dun dun ..downtown lighting. :) Someone who responded to it gave a vaguely confusing response about how to reset the file. I'm not sure what the appropriate number or response would be for resetting it, though.

Thanks for that. I never knew about that cheat. Like Michelle, I'm wondering what the other lighting options are. I'll try out my google-fu later, though.

I started a thread on MATY ages ago called 'Downtown Lighting' where I had someone explain this cheat. there's also some other talk about lighting files, but I didn't quite get it. :}

Argh! YES, thank you for this! I knew there was a cheat but couldn't remember it for the life of me and didn't think of it until AFTER Chris and I shot a bunch of pictures... at the House of Fallen Leaves. We made it over for Jacqueline.

Yeah, House of Fallen Leaves is the most notorious of the downtown lots with this lighting issue.

The scene where Elijah and Shelby go out and run into Persephone was reshot partially because of this. I think I had them at the Lulu lounge and the lighting was crap. So, even though Persephone was there completely spontaneously and that's how I got the idea, I ended up staging the whole scene. ;)

Thank you!! I was searching for that cheat a few weeks ago and couldn't find it.

That's the cheat I was trying to find while I was at Lucky's the other night. There's something weird in the lighting there that made everything I tried to shoot pretty much unusable.

Thank you!

Thanks for this.

I have problems with the lighting on some of the Sim State lots too, so this will come in handy.
