GRAR!

So, after Malakhi destroyed the piece of paper that had all my notes on it, I sat down and wrote them into the word document I have set up to write the story in. I saved it on my desktop like always. I then shot some scenes and dropped the thumbnails of the new scenes into the document. Normally, I'll copy that document to my USB drive and take it with me to work so I can fiddle with it in my spare time. Somehow, I forgot to copy that one to the USB drive, so when I got to work on Thursday night, I didn't have the most recent version. Oh well. My bad.

So today, I have time to work on shooting the plotty scenes. I generally work in windowed mode with my word document open so I can refer to it and see what I need. I opened my USB drive and dragged the document onto the desktop... and only after it had overwritten the more recent one there did I realize what I had done.

It's not a HUGE loss. The outline is still in my head fairly clearly and the thumbnails are thumbnails. They're easily replaced even if I didn't still have them where I'd left them. It's just the sheer idiocy of the mistake that's irking me.

So, to make up for it, some picspam!

After work on Thursday and last night after gaming, I wanted some playtime. I remodeled one of the Maxis apartment buildings in the bin and moved the Newson family into it. That's the bin family with the six orphan kids. They're a challenge to play. It's like Polly's Orphan Challenge on steroids but with more money.

The family comes with two teenagers, two children, and two toddlers. They're all adopted children who were very recently orphaned by their parents unexpectedly dying. They could very easily have a neat story made surrounding them. Most simmers I've heard refer to them immediately went "AWWW..." and set them up in a house with everything they need.

I actually can't remember all of their names, so forgive me on that one.

For once, a chance to watch a toddler do this without being grossed out because the puddle is overflow from the toilet. This is an advantage to having a ground floor apartment. This is Georgia and she is quite happy with this puddle.

Then, of course, there was Garret and his puddle. Unfortunately, his was not as cute when you think of reasons for the social worker to REALLY come. This was on the nanny's watch, by the way.

I initially had a bit of a problem with the school bus not coming. I discovered that there was a conflict somehow related to TwoJeff's mod that changes the bring a friend home from school coding (it offers you the chance to say no, you don't want guests and it also brings home relatives and playables before townies). It may be a conflict with Pescado's AL fixes, but TwoJeff's is aware of the issue.

Even without the hack, the kids are still getting to meet some of the playable kids in the neighborhood. Most of the 5th gen kids are still toddlers and children, but there are a couple of Legacina descended teens around. Alpha here got along well with the teen girl (whose name I'm drawing a blank on).

The only issue I'm having with the kids living in apartment building by themselves involves the fact that all three of their neighbors are single men. Who are kind of creepy about wanting to play with the kids.

ALL of them do this.

One night, the teens were exhausted, so I sent everyone to bed without cleaning up the dinner dishes. This was a mistake because all three of their neighbors kept taking turns coming downstairs and banging on their door to complain about the smell. It kept waking up the teens who had to answer the door no matter what they were doing. It was VERY frustrating. I finally had to have the girl clean up the dishes just so they could get some sleep.

Regardless, the whole family is still very cute.

I played them long enough for the toddlers to turn into children (that's actually Georgia on the swing up there - I just realized, this means I now have two brown-haired Georgias in the neighborhood that are the same age).

And I also got them into private school. Well, sorta.

As I said, the teens were struggling. Neither of them have anyone to help them with homework, so they struggle to get through their daily homework while also taking care of chores and the other kids. Both of them had D's when the headmaster came, and unfortunately this meant that they did not get into private school. But all the little kids did. It's sort of appropriate if you think of the sacrifices two teens would have to make to take care of younger siblings like that.

Anyway, there's that. I need to go re-re-write my outline again and then hop into the dummy hood to get some scenes shot.

That family really is a challenge, I played them in Belladonna, in the trailer park, which is WAY too small for six people, including two cribs.

I also had that creepy thing where the men watch the kids play, and sometimes spin them on the wheel. I thought I was the only one who found it creepy, good to know I'm not.

The teens are Gavin and Ginger, the boy is Gallagher, the little girl is Gabriella, and the toddlers are Garrett and Georgia.

It sucks to hear about overwriting the document. I hope everything works out. :)

Yeah, I thought about the trailer park, but eventually decided those were way too small. I also looked at the lofts, but again. Too small.

Oh the sadness about the document overwrite. I hope this doesn't slow you down *too* badly. My outline is always a slobby thing on paper. So if Marko shredded my notebook, I'd pretty well be sunk.

BTW, I tried some of that manipulate picture and replace dummy pictures w/ thumbnails thing and it works exactly the way you said it would! OK, admittedly they're not fancy manipulations. I just can't seem to get the hang of layers v. backgrounds, etc. But the new pictures showed up in my game yyaaaaaay. So thank you!

That looks like the toddler challenge on speed. I tried playing it with Cecil as a teen and Lytton as a toddler--twice, and yeah, it was like Cecil was sacrificing himself for Lytton. And he was NOT a happy camper about it. It's not fun to watch teenagers cry about bad grades, I don't care who they are.

It shouldn't slow me down worse than my own procrastination tendencies will. :) It took me a little while to write it down again, but nothing major. It was more a bullet list of scenes I need to shoot.

Yay for the photo editing working! If something is labeled a background then you can't treat it like a layer. BUT, in the window that lists your layers, you can drag the background onto the little paper symbol and it will duplicate your background as a layer. So now you have the original image safe as the background and can do anything you want to the new copy on its layer. At this point, I can't imagine using Photoshop without layers and I learned how to use it long enough ago that it didn't have layers. :)

Seems like the world is conspiring against you finishing this BC...

I feel your pain of the overwrite though, I've stupidly done that with essays before which is fun when it's 3 a.m and you have to rewrite stuff. Every single time I backup my neighbourhood I'm terrified I'm going to do it backwards and overwrite with the backup instead of the other way around...

Alexander Goth pretty much raised his twin half siblings for me while he was a teen and they were toddlers and twins after Morty died and Cassandra and Dina had moved out, and I've also done 6 toddlers and 2 parents with no cheats straight from CAS...why do we torture ourselves with these things? Have fun with Casa Orphan.

*No idea why there's an exta 'twins' in there, probably because I'm an idiot who needs to reread things before she posts them...

Ugh I hate when I do stuff like that, and I do stuff like that way too often :(

The orphans are an interesting family, they were my primary testers for AL. They were a challenge but I had a lot of fun with them.

Bummer about the overwriting, but at least it's easily fixable.

Cute picspam!

Urgh how frustrating. I've done things similar before and ended up yelling at the screen.

I've not played the Newsons yet, but they sound like a challenge. Maybe when I need a change of pace for a bit I'll get round to them.

It would be fun to see the Newson's Victorianized. They're an interesting little family and I've enjoyed them. Of course, I also enjoyed the Goodies too. :)

Your homework gets eaten a lot, Ori. :) From your replies it sounds like you're back on track though.

Seeing those toddler interactions is never going to get old. I'm so looking forward to installing AL (eventually) and seeing them for myself.

I saw the orphaned family in the Sim bin, and I'm tempted to add them to the rotation for my Grafted Roots 'hood. The problem is, I'm tempted to add any family that has a kid in it, and I'm afraid my rotation will get too large. :) I might do it anyway, though.
