Just spent the past weekend enjoying my geekdom at a small, local gaming convention. I probably would have had a good time no matter what, but what made it especially thrilling is that the really REALLY good GM I discovered last year was back again this year and I got to play in three of his games. Aaaaah, the joy of a GM who truly knows how to run a roleplaying game with actual, honest to goodness roleplaying in it, but isn't afraid to break out the dice and get into a bit of fun with combat. Since he's also a history professor, his games have a wonderful sense of reality shifted just two steps off center. Two of the games I played in were supers games set in the 1940's with WWII as the backdrop, and getting to beat on Nazis is always fun.
I really wish this guy were local and I could con my way into his regular game. He is, unfortunately, is from Binghamton, which is on the other side of the state pretty much. Eitherway, even if it was only for a few hours this weekend, it was wonderful to get that jazzed feeling back again. Anyone who's ever played in a really great game will know what I'm talking about.
Mmmm.... geekness... good.
