I haven't really had much of a chance to play with Apartment Life, what with going to Binghamton and working on the BC, but today when I went in to shoot a couple of plotty scenes for the next BC update, I saw a new interaction that made me melt. And this is even taking into account the odd couple I saw doing it.

Apparently, if one half of a couple wakes up before the other, they'll now stay in bed and cuddle their sleeping partner for a while. There are even tender little kisses on the other's forehead. If it had been anyone other than these two, I would probably be a puddle of squeeing goo at this point.

I can't wait to find out even more of these little interactions.

Isn't that great? :) I saw it with a copule from Belladonna Cove, and I loved it.

Squeeee! OMG! That might be the cutest thing I've ever seen! Even considering the couple in question! I'm trying to resist the urge to get apartement life JUST for that interaction...and that one of cuddling on the ground. I've actually been debating getting apartement life or Free Time, my computer probably can't handle both, I'll add this to my pro AL column. I've always though the roll over and cuddle each other couple in bed interaction just didn't cut it. I swear as soon as anyone posts a picture of a genuinely adorable couple doing this I might actually die of an overdose of cuteness! Ok...I'm stopping my spazz out now, it's just so sweet and real lifey...

AL seems to be a bit more of a resource hog than FT was, so if you're iffy, you're probably better off going for FT over AL. I'm really glad I decided to upgrade my power supply and ram, because it's taking me about twice as long to load up the game now that I've installed AL.

Um. That's both kind of adorable and weird beyond belief.

I love that new interaction, makes me squee when I see it. Actually there are quite a few new things that have me squeeing, such as the cuddle under clouds/stars and the classic dance with lots of twirls and dipped kisses.

I've seent he cuddle under clouds/stars from the screenshots before release, but I didn't know about the classic dance. Is that a new option other than slow dance, or is it added animations to slow dance? I do remember seeing pictures of children slow dancing. :)

Yeah it's a new romantic interaction that's available. It's very similar to the slow dance, but the sims don't dance close. At random intervals the sims do a slow dance twirl, or the leading sim dips their partner and kisses them, like the end of a slow dance smooch. I was squeeing a lot when my test couple were trying it out.

Those two are actually pretty funny together. ACR is out right now because it still needs to be updated, but those two are still stalking each other for random make-outs and gooses. I still imagine it's a relationship of convenience for the two of them, but they're actually fairly compatible.

Oh, as a side note... I thought you might get a kick out of the fact that Uranium HATES DESPISES WITH THE PASSION OF A THOUSAND FIREY SUNS my version of Steia, Lisa Trottier. They ran into each other on a community lot and almost immediately started picking fights with one another.

It's as if.. they know. ;)

I knew what you meant. :)

I'm liking AL quite a bit. It's a resource hog as far as what it takes to run it and my game is loading much slower now, but I like a lot of what they've added with it. The ceilings are LOVELY and easy to use and all the little interactions and... PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT!!!

*cough*

Anyway. :)

I'm sort of on the fence about it. I mean, it would be a totally cute interaction. I'd love to see Cass and Gil do it. But Rhys and Uranium? Psst, Rhys--DO NOT PET THE KITTY'S TUMMY.

Rhys is so far past petting the kitty's tummy... She's chosen him as her favorite for the moment, so he's safe. But eventually he'll feel the claws sinking in. ;)

and yeah.. Gil and Cass doing it would be omgsoadorable. Now you're going to make me download Cass and dump him into Maxistonia to pair off with Gil. Damn you. ;)

AFAIK, Cass is still up for grabs...

It's killing me that I'll never be able to have couples do that in my game!

What are the specs on your computer, Doc? I'm guessing with the cross country move, you're not in any position to buy a new computer which would solve the issue, but there might be some less expensive things you can do to beef up your existing computer and make it handle another expansion (it barfed when you tried to load Freetime, right?).

I have a laptop, and it's the graphics card that can't handle FT. I think my processor probably could, and I juiced my RAM to over a gig in March, but the graphics card can barely handle what I've got now. It's one of the reasons I've been holding off installing BV, knowing what a resource hog it seems to be for everyone.

I could swing a new computer, but I can't justify the expense for a game, when this one works great for everything else.

You don't know me, but I know you, I'm a lurker, so yeah... I just bought a new laptop and I can play and connext to the internet without my brother pissing me off, so I decided to apear from the shadows and scare people I read...

I just found it extremely funny seing Uranium doing that! And I love your legacy, too!

Ahahaha! That is creepy and yet still full of win. I just picked up AL today. I was going to just get the Prima guide but then I got a discount if I bought both at the same time and I was going to get it eventually anyway. How much RAM do you have now Ori? I'm curious as to whether I should add some more before installing this or not.

I currently have 1gb of RAM. I'm going to be upgrading to 3gb very soon. I've got the ram and the new power supply sitting at home. I just need to arrange a time with a tech-minded friend to get the power supply installed. I could do the ram myself, but I figured i'd wait and do it all at once.

Ah good to know. I have 2 gigs at the moment and was wondering if I should get a third. You'll have to let me know how it runs with 3 gigs in please? Things slowed quite a bit when I finally installed FT. I could just break down and turn off reflections but I like not having to be constantly turning them on and off when I play.

I'm hoping to be able to turn the useshaders on again so I can see fish. If upgrading my power supply and ram doesn't help, it's time to start looking at new video cards for me. :}

I will definitely let you know how it does with the 3gb of ram, though.

What's your video card? I didn't even have to turn shaders off with my old machine with only 512M of RAM, but I did have a fairly good video card (though nowhere near as good as the new one, heh).

It's not that my video card is bad.. it's that I suffer from the Nvidia Blue Screen of Death if I don't play with use shaders off.

I've got EVGA GeForce 6800GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 as my card. It's a solid card from what I understand, but it and Sims2 do not play well together. I think after Bon Voyage, I had to turn use shaders off to keep from having the BSOD problem constantly.

From: [identity profile] wtsims.livejournal.com
More RAM isn't going to fix that BSOD problem. That's purely a problem with the shaders coding and your card series. However, I think I read somewhere that one of the newer driver releases finally fixed it, so if you update your drivers you might be able to turn it back on. (I can't confirm it works, I'm an ATI gal myself, but it's worth a shot.)

That having been said, if you've got the money to upgrade the card, you might want to anyhow. A 6800GS is a few generations old at this point, though for a card from that series it's pretty good. Still, if you're thinking of getting any newer games (Sims 3, Spore, whatever) you might want to see if you can fit an 8800GT into your budget if you want to stick with nVidia... and if you're running an Intel box, you probably should. If you're using an AMD CPU, you might want to switch to ATI though, in which case I recommend my card, the HD3870, which should be about the equivalent power and price. Neither of those are exactly cheap, but they're not the brand-newest cards, either, so the price is coming down on them. Preferably the 512M versions, either way.

I know the BSOD is an inherent conflict between the video card and the game, but after talking with a few tech minded folks, it was agreed that replacing the power supply and increasing the RAM was the first step I needed to do.

While these things won't erase the BSOD issue, they may alleviate the problem enough that I can play with useshaders on again. I'm going to look into the latest nvidia drivers as well. It's been a while since I last updated them anyway.

If I get through this and I still get the BSOD, then I'll definitely be shopping for a new video card. While I plan on sticking it out with Sims2 for a while, I may still get Sims3 when it comes out, so I sould be prepared.

I definitely want to switch to ATI and that I'll need some guidance on.

I adore that interaction! Even between those two, I've played Uranium I know how deceptively sweet she can be. I have such plans once I get around to AL! Specifically, Rhys as a very evil warlock and Cherryh as a very good witch. I somehow get this image of them making each other the potions that turn you nice/grouchy and letting the other try them out! But if it's that much of a resource hog, maybe I should wait. Michael's still trying to get me a new machine entirely.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who got lag while the game was loading when installing. I had to wait, five or ten minutes maybe, just for teh title screen to begin loading.

If you've got a sort of architectural enjoyment in the game like I did, you're probably in love with the ceilings. I personally can't get over how cool they look!

And I'm loving all the interactions. Especially the new kiss interaction: Dance, and the children playing on the new and improved playground.

And I'm juist curious to see how you're going to use witches to your Pseudo advantage... :D

I really need to put those two in my game to see what their kids would look like...and how they don't act the way people write them.

Just as a hint, one of the evil witch spells is to take away people's memories. I already have plans for using it on a member of my yet-to-be-born fifth generation but I know you could find a use for it :D
