Too damn funny! I got a secret posted about the Pseudo Legacy in SimSecret while I was away. I almost forgot to check, so I could have very easily missed it.

Here it is for those who aren't really interested in wading through the silly junk that SimSecret usually is:

I don't actually recall ever saying those exact words. It's very possible I did, but I can't recall where I might have said that. I know I've said similar things, but I wish I could trace back that original comment.

To a certain degree, I can see the point here. Those comments taken out of context when put in comparison against the sims I'd chosen for my legacy heirs to marry could seem pretty hypocritical. Taylor was not face one, but he's got enough face one features to seem like he is. Christian and Matthew are both definitely face two, but there were different reasons for sticking with both of them. I'll admit that I am somewhat shallow about my sims looks. It's taken a while to get adventurous enough to experiment. But that's still never the point I was trying to make about 'shallow' authors.

The authors I was talking about are the ones that go on and on about the way the sims look and how hideous they are. There's a story over on boolprop that was decently popular I thought I'd give a try, but the author spent most of the first episode going on about how ugly Officer Dorian Kauker was. Dorian is face two! You're not going to get much more inoffensive than that.

Anyway, I'm rambling now. I'm really amused by this whole thing and not hurt by it at all. I do wonder who it was since they posted my LJ icon rather than my boolprop icon. Hmmm.

IT WAS ME. I JUST HATE YOU SO DAMN MUCH, ORIKES. GAWD.

Okay, seriously... I kind of laughed at that secret and forgot about it. Even if you did mean you don't like reading legacies where they only marry in the pretty faces, you married in Christian and Matthew for more than just the fact that they're pretty, so I don't see why it matters. I also noticed there was no mention of Shelby.

It was kind of funny to see a "Boolprop legacy" have a secret made about it though, haha. I never expected that to happen.

It's your old boolprop icon too, though, isn't it? Before you switched to Miranda?

I just figured someone wanted to take a cheap shot!

And Dorian Kauker IS ugly, OMG, he's balding which is in no way fixable by Change Appearance.

HEY. Dorian is the epitome of handsomeness and chivalry. I hearts him. (And he's the last face, not face two, but that doesn't change that fact. It's one of the better-looking faces and the only reason people don't like it is because of the nose, which is so, so lovely.)

Anyway, I'm glad you're not offended by that secret, Ori. It kind of made me mad, but if you don't mind it then I guess I won't say anything more about it. SimSecret just makes me annoyed as a rule, really. Don't these people have anything better to do than take potshots at each other?

Hehe. I don't think I ever used my Parker icon on Boolprop. Oh yeah! I remember, up until I switched with Miranda, I used my 'simcat' icon:

And shush your mouth about Dorian! Hrmph. He just needs a little rogaine. :)

They didn't mention Professor Kelly either now that I think about it. She was definitely not face one and I've heard plenty of 'shallow' folks bitch about her forehead and nose.

Don't you love when things are taken out of context!!?

I think that I remember that particular convo on boolprop. Found it!! I'm guessing that it's based on this quote from "How Do You Pick What NOT To Read" by you on 09/30/07:

"I think I may have already said this before, but I was reminded of it again today. I just can't really handle it when authors spend a great deal of time harping on looks. I just tried reading one where the founder had a child by a sim that had what I believe amounts to Face Two.. and the author was going on about hoping the kid's face didn't explode.

I'm not above marrying in pretty sims and I know I'm somewhat superficial, but at the same time when that's what it seems like the author is going on about all the time, I just... Ugh. The legacy may get really good, but if the author comes off initially as really superficial, I tend to give up fairly quickly."

I've come to the general conclusion that simsecret is mostly full of nutcases anyway.

I was actually more offended by the Boolprop secret than I was about the one directed towards me. It was obviously a little mean spirited, but it was oddly exciting to see my sims there. It took me a moment to realize what I was seeing too.

"Hey, isn't that Taylor... And isn't that.. OMG!"

I honestly don't know why I keep looking at Sim Secret. It is mostly just a bunch of whining and wank, but I guess I like seeing the graphics people put together to display their silliness.

That may be it. I know I've talked about it before, but the words they actually quoted seemed off.

It is full of nutcases, but sometimes those nutcases do put together pretty or funny pictures. I think that's pretty much the only reason I still look at it - to see the pretty pictures.

Isn't that funny--I almost never look at SimSecret, and I did today--and I scrolled right past that and missed it!

Meh, the disadvantages of fame. At least it was a *bit* on-topic and not simply a flat out nasty attack, which many of the other "secrets" seem to be.

As for the one on Boolprop, well, I'm not a mod, so I guess I'm "nobody," but I thought that only meant I didn't have to mine through tons of crap to figure out what needed to be locked or warned about.

Same old, I guess.

I think that if someone is going to go to the bother of making a simsecret about your supposed shallowness they ought to do it with a bit more skill. Is that really so much to ask? Every time I look at it all I notice is how the picture sizes of the individual sims aren't uniform and they don't line up.

It fails on many levels.

OH, I'll admit that I read them. I've never posted a secret but, I'm a nutcase, too.

Actually, I read the whole thing because I was at home (too much questionable content to read at work on breaks) and ended up commenting about the boolprop one, yours, and the one about photoshopping not being art.

I actually do remember you saying that. I have one of those very very strange memories, where I can't tell you exactly what the entire content of a lecture I just attended was without consulting notes but I can quote back lines that were said in it perfectly. I can't recall exactly where, but it was on Boolprop I think in some thread about chosing what to read, or what kept certain people reading, and I only remember because I recall wondering what exactly you meant by shallow, whether you were talking visually or in terms of the way in which writers treat their Sims personalitywise etc. I don't remember thinking that it was that big of a deal thought. Geez. People on Simsecret need to lighten up. I only recently discovered simsecret because a couple of people have been mentionning how incredibly bitchy it was getting and I had a look and wow can you say High School Drama.

SimSecret does get bitchy, but I keep going back because there are always a few secrets that are really funny or actually meaningful. The bitchy secrets are even lolsy sometimes, but the "I hate X's legacy" or "much love to Y's stories" are flat out annoying. And I was also surprised to see the Boolprop secret... I mean, it is a fairly large forum, but I've never thought of it as particularly wanky. I guess there will always be some butthurt no matter how inoffensive a community's general ethos is.

Ha! I always manage to forget about that site until I see someone mention it. It's crazy that someone did one about you - and one about boolprop, too! Wow.

Also, I think I know what legacy you're talking about - if it's the same one I'm thinking of, I've tried reading it a couple of times, but couldn't get past the first chapter for the same reason.

I replied to the secret basically saying that shallowness had little to do with the actual looks of the sims involved and more about how the writer refers to them. I've closed more stories because of that than anything else. There was one here on LJ where the writer went on for three slides about the blond downtownie teen's nose the one that's face one.

Yeah, I saw this, rolled my eyes, and moved on. Some people don't know the difference between someone saying they dislike when people don't shut up about something and someone saying they dislike the something in question.

I'm not totally sure why I read SimSecret at this point. Over time it's mostly all the same half dozen things over and over again. I think I may drop it from my read list, honestly.

That was driving me nuts as well. It's all uneven, but it doesn't look like it was done on purpose. Just by carelessness.

The boolprop one bugged me. I mean, I'm no mod, but EVERYBODY there has treated me well and I've yet to see too many people treated poorly. The only time that I've seen folks treated negatively is if they break the rules or are a jerk. I follow the rules and am generally friendly (I think) and that has led to my making friends with lots of folks on the site. Yes, there are butt-kissers wherever you go, but boolprop actually seems to be a place where it's not an epidemic.

So apparently this computer blocks tinypic, but I got Denise to summarize your secret (and Boolprop's) for me, and lol! I actually am not that indignant about either. I have a hard time worrying about that stuff, I guess. I mean, if we want to disprove the one about you all we have to do is point out Kelly and Shelby, and then with Boolprop... the hierarchy there has actually always interested me, because there definitely are Somebodies, but they don't give a damn. Like, there's always a group of authors that people put in their legacies in hopes of being popular. It used to be Rhea, Songsmith, Candi, Jenn, Dor, Renee, etc. Nowadays it's you, Ben, Prof, still Candi, etc. But nobody involved ever cares. It's just kind of who gets read a lot and who writes well, and those who do never seem to be in it to be popular. So... I don't know. It's less a clique and more just people who are looked up to. And it interests me. And this seemed to be a good place to ramble about it, but I'll stop now. :P

Haha, Robin and I had a laugh over this- I also noticed they didn't use Shelby or Prof. Veronica. I don't even remember you ever saying that, but then again, I don't really post in the same topics as you. Oh well, it was only a matter of time before people from other places starting getting attacked as well. I'm really pissed at Simsecret as a whole, how it's become a center of bitchiness, but I won't rant about that here.

I'm glad you aren't upset by that. =/ I'm wondering who said it. I think it's brave marrying in who you did marry in; Professor Kelly had very strange genes (on males; I actually LOVE LOVE LOVE her nose on females, so much that I actually made a sim based on that face), so mixing it with Face One was a good idea -- you have to put up with these sims for 10 generations, having pretty sims (well, your sims are actually unique) is always a nice add-on.

I also noticed that they didn't mention about any of the spares. :)

Whoever that was who said what they said is a real pain in the- whoops, I forgot you can ban me from Boolprop! xD

Somebody should explain to that person how Shelby's face works. I mean, I've seen the effects and they were moderately pretty. It's really hot as an elder, though.

If it was me, she'd say I'm shallow because I gave plastic surgery to three of my sims. In all cases, it was to make them seem a bit similar to the personality I wrote for them.
