I went to see Avenue Q last night. It was made of awesome, even if we were practically as far as you could possibly get from the stage.

A friend of a friend picked up the tickets, and I guess he went for the cheap seats, because we got the nosebleed balcony seats, waaaaaay far away from the stage. They weren't BAD seats, but I had to explain to my friend during intermission that if he could see Kate Monster better, he'd see that she's furry.

Despite that, I'm really glad I went. The performers for this show didn't sound too different from the original cast recording, which was nice. The actress playing Gary Coleman was a bit shrill when she talked, but she had a hell of a singing voice.

The best part was having my friend declare that he'd loved the show and now he understood what I'd meant when I explained it as 'Sesame Street for adults'. When I first told him that ages ago (right after he'd heard 'The Internet is for Porn'), he looked at me very strangely. Now he understands!

Wicked is coming to town in May, and I'll likely be going with this same group again. That one is going to be a bit tougher to get tickets for, since it is selling out.

Yay for musical theater!

Both of those are shows I really want to see but Nashville sucks as far as theater goes! You'd think that a city based on the entertainment industry would be part of the tour circuit but we're like second or third seed for most stuff. I miss St. Louis for that reason, when I lived there I went to the Fox and Muny fairly regularly now if I want to see something 'recent' I have to go back to St. Louis or to Atlanta.
