Still Alive
Oct. 24th, 2007 04:34 amI've actually been showing an interest in Livejournal again recently, mostly due to my current obsession veering back over here.
I've been playing the Sims2 pretty obsessively since I got my new computer back in April 2006. What changed is that I actually started playing a legacy and writing stories about it. Originally I was a bit too embarrassed about them to post anything here, but I've grown proud of how well the later ones have turned out and how they're received.
(I joked with my gaming group last week that I get 'fan mail'. That's not quite true, but some of the guestbook signings are quite fawning, once you interpret the net speak.)
For anyone curious, they can be read here. The first ones are at the bottom of the page, going up to the most recent ones at the top. Think of them as a serial story.
Either way, getting into that as much as I have also means I've also gotten involved in online communities that like that stuff. Recently some of the folks in those communities that I consider friends (e-friends?) have started posting stuff in LJ. So, here I am again.
I'm not sure if I'll use this journal for sim stuff too much, but who knows. The bug might bite me. I am fickle if nothing else.
On the physical life front, I sent out the invitations to AngCon 3 today. This year we'll officially have been running longer than the defunct con that spurred the petulant creation of AngCon in the first place. Maybe next year I'll get my act together enough that we'll actually get someplace bigger to have it at and invite more than just my immediate gaming friends. :)

Date: 2007-10-24 12:23 pm (UTC)I'm glad you're posting in here, whether it be Sim stuff or not. I have been a reader of blogs and journals since before I even knew what the Sims was (and way before Sims 2 existed), and I still have a bunch that I follow regularly. It's a nice way to get to know another side of someone I only usually see in the Sims world. :)

Date: 2007-10-24 06:07 pm (UTC)Still, now that a bunch of the simmers I like are doing stuff with LJ, it only stands to reason that I actually start using the account again. :)

Date: 2007-10-24 05:30 pm (UTC)I wish I had time for obsessions any more; as my graduation has loomed closer, everything has been cut out of my life in favor of dissertation time. Now, there is just that, teaching, tutoring, and grading papers. Oh, and sleep. I would add "eating," except that this task is usually combined with one of the others. (Imagine: eating and sleeping at the same time.)
Before that, I was working on a Victorian RPG using True20. Oh, have you seen the Anita Blake comics from Marvel? Do they have fan approval?

Date: 2007-10-24 06:02 pm (UTC)I thought you were already a Dr. at this point, so is this looming graduation and disseration something else on top of that? What comes after Doctor? Super Doctor Ruler of the Universe? That would be an awfully cool title to tack onto your name. At least there's an end in sight, so you know you'll get to sleep someday.
Ooooh. A Victorian RPG using True20 sounds lovely. I'm guessing there was a supernatural element of some sort? I haven't really gotten to play True20 much, but I like the sleekness of the system.
As for Anita Blake.. I've been a bit out of touch with the 'Anitaverse' since I got fed up with CBTB and quit even logging in there. I'd read all the books that were worth reading (the ones that didn't devolve completely into porn), so it's been a while. I do remember hearing some people groaning about the comic, but that was just a couple of people.

Date: 2007-10-24 06:24 pm (UTC)I should totally call myself Super Doctor Ruler of the Universe. Maybe I shall just append SDRotU after my name.
The Victorian thing is called "Penny Dreadflul" and I think you would really dig it. A week ago the wiki where everything was being hosted crashed and I'm still waiting to see if any of the data can be recovered. If it goes forward, I will invite you along. If all my work was lost, however, I will probably give up and just do my diss until May.
I would totally go to AngCon. I mean, imagine the exclusivity! You need special t-shirts or something. You're a graphic designer; at least have a logo for chrissakes.

Date: 2007-10-25 01:41 am (UTC)And Ooooh on Penny Dreadful. I would like that quite a bit. When I was at Origins I played a D20 based game that was a bit of a rip on the 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen', so it had that Victorian feel to it. The system really didn't work when combined with D20 the way they did it, but the concepts they were using were fun.
