Random Bits
Nov. 5th, 2006 10:55 pm1. Marnie’s agreed to go vote in the morning on Tuesday, so I’ll be able to get to the Church and place my votes before heading in to work with her. This is a good thing since otherwise I won’t be getting home until after 10pm. I could, as TJ suggested, get up early and walk over and then walk back, but that would require making the morning even more atrocious than it already is, and as much as I believe in casting my vote to make a difference, I think I hate mornings more than I like voting.
2. My health insurance kicks in on November 13th. I’m pretty psyched about this, but I’m hoping I don’t have to use it soon. I’ve had a cough I’ve been dealing with for the last month. It’s mostly been just a minor irritation and I haven’t *felt* sick at all. Unfortunately, the last few days seems to have given it a sinus component, which is making me feel sick. Nothing horrible, but it’s a good thing I don’t have to talk for a living anymore. My voice would have left me a long time ago.
3. The game is going pretty well. My Friday Night gaming group elected me to pick up my game again last month, and I decided we were going to convert the 1st edition Mutants and Masterminds characters to 2nd edition. It actually is working out really well, and I’ve got a more solid handle on the system. There are still moments where I’m pulling stuff out of thin air because I have no idea how it’s actually supposed to work. For the most part my players are really cool and don’t mind. They seem to be enjoying themselves.
4. I’ve been thinking of doing AngCon II sometime in the next month or so. I had fun doing it last year, and it would be a nice tradition to start. The concern I’m running in to is whether or not I’d be getting in over my head inviting everyone I want to. Last year, I had Scott, Heidianna, Woody, Dave, Doug, Dr. Angela and TJ show up. This year, Dr. Angela has moved to the Left Coast and wouldn’t be able to come, but I’ve added Brendan, Tristan and Julie to my gaming circle. Not to mention I wanted Rudy to come last year and would want him to come this year. That’s quite a few people and more than I’d be comfortable running in one game. I could probably do it, but it would be utter chaos. I guess I’ll pick a weekend and send out invites and figure out what to do after that.
5. I’m starting to thinking about cars. There’s still a couple of things I need to take care of first, but they’re goals that are within sight. I don’t see any reason why I can’t have a car on the road by March. The question is, though, do I try and get the Neon back on the road, or do I just unload it as a trade-in and get something else? I think what I would *like* to do is get the Neon running and use it for six months or so while saving up a down payment for a newer car. This, of course, depends on how much it’s going to cost to get the Neon on the road. Everyone has an opinion on what I should do with it, so I’m not sure who to listen to.
6. A cat that used to be mine, had to be put to sleep this past week. Didi was a kitten that Tara and I got when we moved into Broadway back in ’92. We had gotten another kitten to be a companion to Ashes, the first cat we got, but he didn’t make it. He was too sickly and was taken from his mother too early. We still wanted a little friend for Ashes, so we ended up finding this crazy Russian lady with a houseful of cats and two litters of kittens to give away. Didi was the cutest one of the bunch, so we took her. Her name came from one of our friends telling us to name her "Don’t Die Kitty". DDK. Didi.
She was a sweet cat, but extremely neurotic and clumsy. For anyone who’s met Pashenko, believe me when I say that Didi was worse. She dealt with having a houseful of people because it made Ashes happy, but she always preferred the quiet moments. In her last few years, Didi ended up with our friend Dave, who had always been very fond of her. She loved being at his house, since she wasn’t taking too kindly to the chaos of having small children around.
Didi had developed tumors and had stopped eating. She only had a few weeks left at most, so it was kinder to put her down. Ashes died in 2000 due to feline diabetes, so it’s sad to know she’s gone. Even if she hadn’t been ‘mine’ for quite a few years, I still considered her one of my cats.
