Hope you all had a good day, whether it involved picnics, fireworks, or just getting a day off.

For my part, I got to go see Superman. Mmmm. Superman gooooood. It was an excellently fun film and I was quite happy with it.

I find it interesting that last year the big superhero film was Batman, which was successful because it came at the story quite differently than the previous film versions. Yet this year, we get a very successful take on Superman, partially because it sticks very close to the best of the previous films. This probably should have been what the third film was back in the '80's.

The kid thing was something I saw coming when you find out that Lois has a kid. The kid looks five, Supes has been gone for five years... Doesn't take a genius. Then again, these are the people who haven't figured out that Clark Kent is the same person as Superman.

Either way, while I saw that coming, I was quite pleasantly surprised at how they handled Lois' fiance. It was something that could have been horribly cliched, but was handled well. He was a good guy, capable, and honestly caring deeply for Lois and the boy. I also liked that the end of the film DIDN'T resolve the love triangle.

It also explained why Cyclops' part was so damn small in X-men 3. I was sooo pissed with what they did to him in that film, but now I understand the 'OOC' reasons why his part was smaller. (See, I'm good. I warned about spoilers for Superman, but avoided the spoilers for X-men 3, which could have caught someone unwary.)

I wonder what Bryan Singer could have done with X-men 3, but I'm very glad he did Superman Returns.

I think it DID resolve the love triangle, actually. After all, they both have some closure now... and Lois seems to have a really positive relationship with her fiance, which wasn't dulled at all by events in this movie.

Plus, if you recall, she doesn't even *remember* confessing her love to Superman/Clark, their lovenest in the Fortress of Solitude, etc.

So in her mind, sure, he left... but he left what was still a basically unrequited crush that she'd never admitted.

Of course, now that she's suspecting it's his kid, she'll figure something more happened there than she remembers. It must come up in the next movie... it had better, anyway.

I'd rather have Singer on Superman than on the X-men series at this point. I care more about the Superman series! ^_^

See, I didn't take it as resolved. I took it as both Superman and Richard as realizing how important the other guy was to her and trying to decide how best to deal with that.

I think she also KNEW that Jason was Superman's kid. There was that whole scene with Lex and the kryptonite where he picked up on her fear. She wouldn't have reacted that way if she thought that Jason was Richard's kid. Richard's child wouldn't have been vulnerable to the stuff.

She and Jason were both already scared in the scene with the Kryptonite, though... and he is waving a big rock at her kid's face.

Guess we'll have to wait and see about Superman and Richard. I don't see Richard as going anywhere, or Lois as any less close to him. She and Supes already had their "old times sake" goodbye.

Oh no... I don't think Richard is going anywhere. BUT.. I think that he's questioning things in the same way Supes is. "Is he the better guy for her?"

And yeah, she and Jason were already scared, but there were so many signs to show that she knew Superman was Jason's father. Heck, that scene in the hospital could be interpreted as her telling him. She told him something, and he obviously knew the truth at the end of the film. That was the only real confirmation *he* got about it. He wasn't there for the piano or the scene with Lex.

Anyway. :) It was a good movie.

Oh, well by THEN I'm sure she knows and she tells him in the hospital. But until that day, I wonder if she only suspected it herself.

After all, all she knows is she had this big crush on Superman and then he leaves and she's pregnant. HMMMM. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out, unless she really ended up /immediately/ in the sack with Richard.

As for the piano scene, yeah. I love how the goons tell Lex about the piano and he just pauses a sec and then announces that they're leaving. Now. :D

And yeah. Good movie. ^_^

(then again, maybe she DID end up immediately in the sack with Richard. See also the "he was premature" comment in the movie. Obviously he was actually full term. ;)

Well, she had to end up with Richard pretty quick for Richard to think Jason was his. No more than a month, two at the most, after she was with Supes in the Fortress of Lovitude. :)
