Stupid Fan Forums

orikesI hate fan forums.
There have been some work times recently where I’ve had a little extra downtime and needed something else to read. With Order of the Stick being late and me being curious why, I decided to check out their forums. God reading this thing can make your eyes bleed.
Take for example this thread. The initial author made an amusing-ish comment about the difference between Paladins and other fighter classes. Meant purely and obviously as humor. Yet some people actually come along and poopoo the post for being incorrect and then it further starts delving into an argument between the ‘roleplayers’ and the ‘minmaxers’. For god’s sake!
Can I just smack these people around?

Date: 2006-03-04 10:06 am (UTC)As you can imagine, lots of nitpickery over alignments, pretty much rehashing the old argument that's been around since the `70s. Finally the fellow who draws the strip stepped in and said, "He's evil! Ok? He's chaotic evil! There's no doubt about this! Look, here's a list of all the evil things he's done..." And let me tell you, the list was a hoot.
And I wouldn't be surprised if they still debated over it even after his post.

Date: 2006-03-04 04:07 pm (UTC)Without having a photographic memory to recall every single evil thing the halfling had done, I was willing to say that I could see him being chaotic neutral. This really snotty person replied to me in a condescending way stating how she was glad she would never play in any of my games if that's how I felt about alignment.
I wanted to smack her and some of the others. Yes, the halfling is chaotic evil, but the whole damn storyline he had just done was about how good is not always good and evil is not always evil.
