Okay, so the good news is that I got the job. You know, the part-time one I interviewed for yesterday. I got a call this morning to let me know they'd like me to start training next week. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings from 6pm to 9:30pm, and then some time on Saturday. After that, provided everything's okaydokey, I start whatever my regular shift will be (I'd prefer Monday through Wednesday, 6-10pm, and then Sunday from 12:30 to whatever the end of the second 4 hour shift is).
Problem, though. The staff manager from the company I'll be working for SWEARS that there is a bus that comes by the place specifically at times to accommodate that shift, both in arriving and leaving. RTS (Rochester Transit Service) on the other hand thinks she's on crack.
I spent a good forty-five minutes on the phone with RTS customer service today trying to figure out which bus I'll have to take. I was bumped up three times and each time they couldn't find anything that even closely resembled working for that shift. There's a bus that goes by there at about 2pm in the afternoon, but no friggin way am I going to sit there for 4 hours waiting for my shift to start. And there is no bus that comes home. So what the heck!?
I called the temp agency and the woman from there is going to call the place and find out the specifics on the bus route. While I don't think they're lying to me (because why would they offer me a job they know I can't get to?), I also have a hard time believing that three people at RTS are completely ignorant of one of their routes.
AAARRRRRGHHHH!!!!
I hate HATE not having a car. This is such bullshit. Commerce and business downtown is dead and dying and the bus system only barely supports the suburbs where there actually are some jobs. It makes finding a job in this friggin' economy even harder. I wish to god I had the skills that would make some company somewhere at least pay moving expenses to get me out of here. I know there are cities out there where you're not crippled by not having a car. Some places actually have decent public transportation and thriving metropolitan areas.
*sigh* And on top of this, my roommate is driving me nuts. She's going away on vacation next week with her sister. Today she tells me that her parents may be stopping by next week to see her cat. Mind you, her parents never come by while she's home. But she's given them her key and is going to have them stop by next week to visit her cat. I wasnt' sure if I was overreacting, but I told her that I wasn't comfortable having to play host for her parents when she's not home and that I would prefer they not come over. I can take care of her damn cat just fine.
In fact, I have a nefarious plan. No, no, I'm not going to hurt the cat. I'm going to make the friggin' thing get used to my cats. She's lived with me for nearly a year and refuses to let the cats get acclimated to one another because Sarah 'gets upset'. No, she gets upset because she gets upset at everything. I've never met anyone who can worry as much as she can. I swear she'd be a poster child for anti-anxiety medication if she'd actually consider seeing a doctor about it. Anyway, while she's gone, I am determined to get these cats used to each other.
*deep breath* Okay, ranting done for the day.
