Weekend and Weekstart
Oct. 25th, 2005 01:16 pmMy game went really well Friday night. Again, I seem to have trouble starting things up, but once stuff starts rolling, life is okay. Something about transitioning them and introducing plot elements throws me off. If they’re initiating things, I can easily roll with it.
They were actually all really amused by the costumes I came up with in Hero Machine for them from their costume lady. Two of the five were somewhat weak, but Clara really doesn’t have much personality and Karl’s costume is superfluous to his abilities. The biggest complaint I got was from the gay man playing his interpretation of a high maintenance woman, “She’s not showing enough skin!”
I placed the potential kidnap victims they needed to watch out for both in Las Vegas. One was a showgirl at the Venetian and the other was a computer programmer for Harrahs. I’ve actually been to both of those Casinos at least briefly, so I felt fairly comfortable with being able to give the right atmosphere. I fudged a little here and there (like I don’t think the Venetian actually has a nightclub), but for the most part everything worked.
Two of the players were really tired, so they called it an early night. That actually worked out well. I don’t know that I would have been able to get to a climactic battle before the night was over and I might have rushed if they were both there and alert. I was able to let each of the three remaining players doing some investigative work and had a bit of fun with all three. It’s always got to be fun when you can turn to the six foot plus gay man with a beard and say, “You’re an attractive woman in a short skirt at a night club. Of course there are men wanting to buy you drinks.” (The other line of the night was, “Okay, when you land the rental car…”)
I think they all had fun. I know I did. The actual mechanics can throw me still, but I went armed with cheat sheets that helped this time.
In other news, this weekend was supposed to be productive. I meant to do some major cleaning and winter prep. It was just about the opposite of that. I did get some things done, but not nearly as much as I’d hoped. I’m planning on putting a new rug in the computer room this coming weekend and that room will need a total excavation. I wanted to put new drop ceiling tiles in, but they’re a bit more expensive than I thought. Still, I hope to get some before finishing the room off. It will help insulate at the very least.
I was kinda sick this weekend too. Sunday I had a horrible headache and I think I had a fever for part of the day. I decided not to go into work on Monday and slept for a solid ten hours. I’m feeling better now. I think it was a change of season thing.
So, the week is starting a little late, but I feel okay about things today.
