So How Did I Do?
Apr. 23rd, 2004 09:35 pmDoes anyone really know when a job interview went well? I’ve had four interviews in the last four weeks. Five, if you go back two months. Each one has seemed to go pretty well. I thought I came off as friendly and competent and they seemed to like me. But two of those five have been rejections and I thought I would have heard from two of the others by now if they wanted to hire me or give me a second interview. When it comes down to it, I have no friggin’ clue.
Today’s interview seemed to go fairly well. I was on time, even with getting a ride from a chronically late friend. First, I met with the department head who seemed like a nice guy. He was pretty amiable and talkative. We talked in his office for a bit and then he took me down to the lab where I would be working if hired. It’s basically a large room full of giant professional size digital printers. And copy paper. Lots and lots of copy paper boxes. He handed me over to the senior person on the team that has the opening. She seemed nice, laid back and funny. She showed me a little bit about the actual set-up of things before handing me over to the digital engineer in charge of the equipment and designing the tests on the machines. He was a bit more intense and asked the harder questions that actually made me have to think about my answers.
It seemed to go okay, but I really have no idea. If they’re going to hire me, I’ll probably hear back by Friday. They’re looking to have someone start by May 3rd. We’ll see, I guess. I’m still feeling pretty upbeat about things, just mystified at how blind I seem to this type of thing.
