I'll Take Snow, Please

This is from a snowstorm January 2005
I was horrified with what went on with Katrina, both during and afterwards. When Rita started threatening the gulf coast, I briefly pondered how people were going to overreact to this. Don't get me wrong, she's a damn frightening storm, but after everything that went on with Katrina, I knew Rita was going to get a lot of hype. Which she has.
What's most frustrating about watching the preparations for Rita is how Texas is struggling to be 'better' than Louisiana was, but is failing rather miserable. Everyone scolded the governor of Louisiana and the Major of New Orleans for not getting more people out. But you look over in Texas and they're doing the exact same thing. Thank GOD Rita's dropped in power and is predicted to drop even further before she makes land fall.
People CAN'T leave. Even those who have cars can't get out. There are no routes out of Houston and the surrounding area that they can access. It's on the news and it's in the LJ of people I know (peripherally) that live in the area. They want to leave. They're perfectly willing to leave. And they can't.
As much as I'd love to live on the coast and bask in the sun all year round, I'll take blizzards over that mess. We might get snowed in, but it's rare that the wind is strong enough to rip the roof right off the house.
My thoughts are with any of you in Rita's path, or have family and friends in Rita's path.
