I have a chinchilla!
Her name is pippin and she's probably about six months old. No more than a year. She's what the breeders call a 'mosaic'. That's the bits of grey dusted into her white fur.
I've wanted one of these little guys since I started gaming with my gaming group. The wife of the couple whose house we game at has her own menagerie of pets (two dogs, a cat, four chinchillas, two hedgehogs, and fish). The chinchillas she has are the cutest, friendliest little guys I've ever seen. They are amazingly social and if they're treated right, they'll happily sniff noses with nearly anyone. Not to mention the lengths they'll go to for a raisin. Anyway, my friend realized I'd fallen in love with the little guys and she's been encouraging me to get one for myself.
This Friday, she IM'd me and pointed out three ads in the paper selling chinchillas. I thought I wanted a boy, so I tried the two advertising those first, but they were already gone. So, I tried the third one. They wanted about a quarter of what they'd paid for her, and I was being offered the spare cage that my friend had. So... I did it.
And this brings Pippin into my family. The cats are a little confused. Pashenko keeps crying whenever I give the chinchilla a raisin. He thinks he should be getting a treat too.

"When can she come out and play?"

"I really don't like the flash."
