Stupid People
May. 12th, 2005 01:46 pmI honestly don't mind the job I'm in now. It's not something I'm enamored with, but I don't want to claw my eyes out at the end of the day. Most of the people I deal with are grateful for the help and not outright hostile. Of course, the people who are jerks and hostile really piss me off.
Like a guy I had yesterday. Had a camera that was obviously an older camera. The serial number had been rubbed off (not surprising if the camera got a lot of use). He didn't have a receipt. He was insisting that the camera was only two weeks old and should be in warranty. I spent twenty minutes on the phone repeating the same thing over and over and over again. "Sir, without the receipt as proof of purchase, there is no way to prove the camera is in warranty. Without the serial number, we cannot even determine the camera's manufacture date." Of course, he also changed his story several times. They've had it for two weeks, they've had it for four months, and so on.
What I really hate is when they threaten me. "I can't believe Kodak won't stand behind their product." "I will never buy another Kodak product again!" and so on. Most of the time it's from their own ignorance of the nature of electronics or warranties. Very rarely is it truly an outstanding issue with a camera, and in those cases, Customer Care usually bends over backwards to try and help them. And honestly, there is only one camera that has 'issues' that are worthy of bitching about.
Anyway. Wanted to vent. :)

Date: 2005-05-12 07:39 pm (UTC)Just kidding. People like that are just trying to scam something for nothing, annoying as they are, you handled it just the right way.
Sorry you have to deal with such though.

Date: 2005-05-12 10:36 pm (UTC)We had one lady who had gotten a Printer Dock for Christmas. Didn't open it up until APRIL, and then was pissy because it wasn't as easy as she thought it was going to be. The store wouldn't take it back (obviously) and she wanted us to give her money back, which we do not do. We'd repair it, we'd replace it, but we don't do refunds. She was such a pissy bitch. I wrangled with her on the phone for a good half hour before she got handed off to a supervisor to deal with. And in the end, they told her exactly what I did and told her if she wanted to sue, to talk to a lawyer.
