Surprises

They got me today. They being my family. I expected to go out to dinner with my dad and some family, but it turned out to be a full blown surprise party with probably fifty people.

I walked into the room and they all yelled surprise. There was my brother from out of town, aunts and uncles from both sides of the family, cousins galore from everywhere, family friends who might as well be aunts and uncles, friends I've had for years and the gaming friends I've collected into my life even more recently. They even got my best friend from high school there. My head was spinning I was so floored.

My aunt presented me with a wand that proclaimed me as being 40 and I was given a pin that had a blinking red light to also proclaim me as the birthday girl. Everyone there had a name tag on that proclaimed them to be the 'Old Fart's Friend'.

I made out like a bandit between the gift cards and the 50/50 raffle they did for me, but the best part was all the people. Sometimes I consider myself a pretty introverted person. I like people well enough, but I often feel like I drift through life fairly alone. But pretty much everyone there was someone I care about deeply. My own little people collection. I've collected a lot of people into my life when it comes right down to it.

Anyway, that was my day. :)

Aww, that's wonderful! I remember getting a surprise party when I turned... twelve, I think it was. It's such a fun concept and I'm glad you got to have one and that so many people were there- and that you got awesome gifts out of it, lol.

Good friends, good family, good times. Sounds like a great party to me. I'm glad you had such a good party. I know what you mean, it's hard sometimes to realize just how many people our lives are a part of. It's nice when it's something good that reminds you.
