Behind the Scenes - Chapter 4.7
Jun. 20th, 2008 03:34 amWarning: Sim Stuff Ahead
I take a TON of pictures. For every picture that ends up in an update of mine, there are probably ten to twenty that don't. I save all of them and keep them around, though most of them never seen the light of day. While I don't have much in the way of real Behind the Scenes explanations on 4.7 like I did for 4.6, I still want to show off some of the pictures I couldn't use.

I have so many pictures of Micah just smiling and being himself. I'm really going to miss his two-tone hair. I wish I could find an elder version of the swoosh that has the swoosh colored. I am glad that I can use the swoosh for him as an elder at least, though.

Even though I got lots of sympathy in comments about having to let these guys turn into elders, but it really was time. They've all been in my game for close to eighteen months. Heck, they're as old as my friends one kid.
And ah, my outgoing Legacinas. I really hope the finger-gun gene never leaves the family. I adore shy sims, but it just wouldn't feel right if I didn't have someone finger gunning as they walked through the room and announcing, "Vaddi Bobo!"

If you look on the left hand side, you can see Miranda poking her head out. Miranda was actually at all of the events that took place in this update. The only one she could be spotted in was Ian's wedding. It's probably a good thing considering how many questions I've got about that.
In this pic, you can also see that Nate and Meadow are both wearing different clothes. When I installed Freetime, I mucked up my Saved Sims folder which happens to be where the recolors of their outfits were saved. I really need to learn how to make .pkg files of recolors so I don't accidentally delete them out of the saved sims folder. Luckily, I had back-ups (and Nate was kind enough to wear his color anyway).

I dressed Matthew and Persephone in matching outfits. I think they look very cute together. I was also really happy to change Persephone's hair style. I thought about switching her a couple of times, but by the time I was considering seriously it, she was so close to turning into an elder, I figured I'd wait.

This was one of the pictures I had to cut early on. I have a ton of pictures of Star as a toddler and this is one of the most adorable, but I just couldn't think of a way to fit it in and I didn't want to do a random "Toddler Spam!" pic.

This was another one I had to go without. Jacob and Kirby really are best buddies. The dog adores the kid and the kid adores the dog.

Nate continues to make the BEST faces. I think he has to win, hands down, the 'Best Faces of Gen Four'. Ophelia probably comes in second, but he just wins.

As I said, Meadow really did give birth in the smallest room in the house. I think the bathroom is 2x3, just enough room for a toilet and a shower.

Caleb's birth meant that I had a toddler and a baby at the same time in the house. Some creative rearranging and the floor dividers helped with that situation.
It's funny, I decorated the Thayer nursery in yellow and pink, and there hasn't been one girl yet.

Here's an shot of the Turner house, where Micah and Genesis live. I've thought about doing LJ tours of my various houses just to show them off. This one will never be exported because it's built into the side of a hill, but there's still stuff I'd love to show off about it.
So what do you say? Would you want to see tours of the various houses in my neighborhood?

Speaking of stuff I want to show off, I did the recolor of Kiley's wedding 'tux'. It wasn't too hard really. I took one of the GLS recolors from Mermaid Cove (I think) and took out all the color. I then played with levels and contrast to make it look more black than gray. The final touch was adding the red band on the camisole, so she matched Julie's dress.

Playing that house, I also discovered that this outfit/mesh by Nouk has a pregnancy mesh with it. I love when I can keep a sim in their regular outfit through a pregnancy. It's odd, but I like them having a look that's specifically theirs, so I don't like changing outfits after a look has been established.

This is Mercedes turning into a toddler. She is probably the most appropriately dressed toddler I've ever had. Before she grew up, I was thinking I might have her be a little spoiled. Only child, two fortune sim parents, doting grandparents that are all hers the majority of the time. Little Princess complex. And this is what she grew up in.

Best. Grandfather. Ever.

This is my future dumpster diver, Louise. See all the little flies buzzing around her? I didn't know that happened with really sloppy sims, but it does.

I actually went through a couple of different looks for her. This was the outfit she transitioned into, but probably the second or third hairstyle I tried until I settled on the one that's in the update. I like this style, but it didn't say 'Louise' to me.

See, Miranda was at this party too. She and her niece do get along, even if they're never going to discuss cleaning projects together. Louise will give Miranda a heart-attack the first time she leaps into a garbage can to pull somethig out.

Buttercup and Dagmar do this EVERY day. It'll probably get old eventually, but it's pretty darn funny right now.

I really wanted to include this picture, but I just couldn't find a reason. Ian did stalk Lisa, to the point that when she was exercising, he'd find a reason to be in there with her. This time, he decided to wash the windows.

Lisa is actually pretty darn fun to play. She's a tub pirate which is something I love. Of course, this also explains why Marina has had so much trouble with playful kids being born in her apocalypse, since Steia and Lisa are the same dormie.

I have so many pictures of Lisa and Ian arguing. And all of it was staged. I prepared myself to have Ian go balistic as I had him walk in on Lisa and Mitch making out, but he just stood there and gave a happy little outgoing sim wave. GAH. I even had them woohoo on the same lot, and he didn't get upset. I'm not sure if it's the romance mod or if it's ACR, but jealousy was definitely not working as normal. It's made me ponder seeing if I could get a polyamorous relationship to work in game, like Simagroop did with Helena, Calvin and Ripp.

This bartender actually showed up in a very early Pseudo update. He was the one freaking out about Zoey and Christian making out in his campus bar. The guy really is a class act, and I keep that hair in the game just for him.

When I was shooting the scene between Robi and Ophelia, his face got stuck. I'm not sure what happened, but I finally had to force error on him to get his face to unstick.

I got a lot of great shots between the two of them during that scene. I actually built a whole motel for the scene. It's called the Notel Motel. Ophelia owns it, of course. I may try and get an exterior shot of it into the next update.

Here's a close-up of the revamped Kirstial, mostly to show off the Ren Sim eye replacements. It was bugging me that all my sims had a certain looking eye, but the vamps were still the very flat Maxis eyes. I can live with them on the Bigfeet and the Werewolf eyes look different, but the red eye was a bit much. These work wonderfully.

Finally, some simself stuff. Doc, your simself makes great faces. Has anyone bred your simself yet? Your simself is very distinctive looking, so I'd love to see the results.

I about died when Doc went to work in this outfit, though. Sarah mentioned most of the simselves wanting the same career in her hood. In mine, they all wanted to be entertainers.

And last, but certainly not least, Toast getting to lecture all the adult simselves about being a bad example (and hogging the bubble blower).

Date: 2008-06-20 07:49 pm (UTC)When things finally calm down for me, I'll start doing tours of some of the homes then. I also want to do some more building and share some houses. It's been a while since I made any new ones.

Date: 2008-06-20 04:11 pm (UTC)I love the houses you make. When you get spare time to play but just don't want to advance with the Legacinas, can you make more houses. I've already run out of them for my legacy ;(
I think it's cute that Mercedes grew up in Julie's wedding hair. Also, are you planning on making Louise the heiress or will the future siblings have a shot?

Date: 2008-06-20 05:12 pm (UTC)I ad a feeling Mercedes was their kid, but I didn't know how you'd explain it, but you did it really well. I was meaning to ask you what hack/pose you used for that WONDERFUL shot of Ian standing under the arch by himself, looking ready to kill. I loved that shot so much, it was my favorite of the whole update.
I think you can remove the recolored outfits from your SavedSims folder. I recolor outfits all the time, and I move them to my downloads folder, and they still show up in game. :)

Date: 2008-06-20 05:26 pm (UTC)For this one, I probably used Decorgal's Talk Painting and had Ian doing one of the disgruntled listening poses. I have her talk paintings, Aikea-Guinea's animation paintings, Hula & More, as well as Decorgal's model poses thing. I've also recently gotten some animation mods that focus on specific EPs. I can't remember who they're by off the top of my head, though.
I thought I'd tried moving the outfits like that and they stopped showing up. Maybe I just didn't do it right.

Date: 2008-06-20 06:19 pm (UTC)Teehee--Count Robi's got the Vetinari nose... I miss that nose.
SimNerd does make fun faces. And the odd part is she really does look a lot like me. I was playing her when I was home for the holidays, and my mom happened to look over my shoulder, and she went, "That's you, huh?" "Yup." "...Damn... You really got your chin nailed." Dunno how well it works in reverse, but at least she's identifiable as me!
LOL at the clown suit. I don't know if anyone else has bred SimNerd, but I have (unholy unions of SimNerd and Legacy Sims in CAS). I'll go hunt down the shots of the ones I have and post 'em for you.

Date: 2008-06-20 07:47 pm (UTC)I love Lisa's nose. It's actually the same face as Professor Kelly, but her nose didn't pass down to Zoey or Vic, so I never got to see it again.
Please definitely post pictures of SimNerd spawn. :)

Date: 2008-06-20 07:20 pm (UTC)What color would you want the swish to be for Micah? If you just want one of the basic Maxis textures it wouldn't be that difficult to transfer them. Not sure if the recolor that Micah had as a YA/Adult shows naturally in BS but it would probably transfer over if there was a version of the hair on a saved sim.
Pleasure Seekers can be weird with ACR and what makes them mad, but it was probably the Romance mod that stopped the jealousy. With just ACR there are times I expect/hope to see slapping and the sims involved remain oblivious, but generally once two sims are at least engaged there will be trouble if caught cheating.

Date: 2008-06-20 07:45 pm (UTC)I keep debating on whether or not I want to leave in the Romance Mod. I like some of what it does, but all the hidden stuff irks me. I would like to see a couple (or trio) with an open relationship in the future, but I'm not sure if that would work without the romance mod.
I also had jealousy/acr problems back when I was doing the Ninja part of the quest. I wanted a shot of Elijah trying to push the ninja chick off of him, but no matter how low I set their relationship, he'd accept the ACR make-out option. It was driving me nuts. I finally just skipped using those pictures.

Date: 2008-06-20 10:32 pm (UTC)And count me among the people who would like to see the tours! I've always been inspired by your building. In fact, there's a really unique building in my hometown (septagonal with a hipped roof) and I spent forever drawing a layout and working out the tiles, and then I could not get the roof to work correctly.

Date: 2008-06-21 01:09 am (UTC)ACR changed jealousy enough for me. The romance mod takes too much jealousy out of the game. It doesn't matter what aspiration you are, if your spouse cheats on you, you're going to get pissed.
I could see Miranda at Micah's birthday party really easily, sorry to say. I didn't notice her at Ian's almost-wedding at all, though. I really like that hair on Louise, but it seems like a teen-and-up hair to me. *shrug* Yes, please do give tours of your houses! They're always so nice.

Teenage version of Shelby's face. Don't believe me?:

Same girl, young adult. Looks exactly like Shelby in my opinion. Except she has skintone three :)
I rest my case...so Louise is in fact a Shelby-clone and thus a clone of my current heiress xD

Date: 2008-08-17 12:40 am (UTC)Also, I do know that ACR can let your sims have no jealousy at all. I've got a few jealousy-free Romance sims (and one who I thought was jealousy-free and turned out not to be, after all *facepalm*).
