The Shelby Problem
Oct. 24th, 2008 04:51 amPretty much anyone who's read the updates with Shelby in them can tell that I absolutely adore her as a character. She's a great deal of fun to write and I think she's a very good match for Elijah. She grounds him and balances him out. I was a little worried at first about mixing in her genetics, but I figured it was time to mix things up a little.
Unfortunately, I have discovered that there's more of a problem with her genetics than I thought. Shelby has one of the face templates that's been added to the game incorrectly. From what I understand, there are two face templates added with Uni that are not linked properly to the other age groups. So, as a result, a sim created with this adult template will display face one for any age group other than adult/ya.
There's a fix over at MATY which I've had for quite a while. Since long before I Shelby was even part of the story. I thought this would fix the problem, but I was wrong. Apparently, the fix does not help sims that are already in the game with that template. It only helps new sims that are created after the fix is in.
So, here's what the real Shelby looks like at all the life stages:

And here's what she's supposed to look like:

I've posted about this problem on MATY and I'm hoping someone can come back with a solution, but I have a feeling I'm on my own with this one. With Shelby herself, I think I can fix the issue with some sim surgery. I create a duplicate in CAS and use sim surgery to kick her genetics back into gear. The only problem with this is that it doesn't help fix Louise or Oz.
I extracted Louise and played with her as well. She's got the exact same problem as Shelby. None of her features that she inherited from her mother show up at any lifestage other than adult/ya. I'm guessing that Oz is going to have the exact same problem since he looks just like Louise.
This is going to drive me nuts until I figure out a solution. There's no way I want Shelby to suddenly become face one as an elder and I really would prefer that her kids, my legacy heirs, show the features they're supposed to have and be able to pass them down to their own kids.
Anyone have any ideas on this one?

And then use sim surgery to replace them. The only problem I see with doing this is that you don't always get the right facial combination because sometimes the genes are halfway between each parents. That's would I would do ... sorry if it isn't too helpful.

Since they're just toddlers right now and haven't been in the story yet, could you extract Shelby and Elijah, breed them in CAS until you get similar looking kids, stick them somewhere, extract the kids and then sim surgery the real Louise and Oz?
