Busy

Things are going to be pretty busy for me this month.

It's crunch time at work, so I'm actually working a little bit of overtime in addition to just having plain lots to do there. Our fiscal year ends on July 31st, but one of our major customers ends their fiscal year on June 30th, so we have to have everything we're sending to them done by June 20th. It's a pain in the ass, but considering who they are, you just generally smile and nod.

I'm not one who enjoys overtime. I am a lazy individual, who likes doing what I LIKE doing fairly often. Having to work two jobs, or work significant overtime cuts into the time of doing what I like to do. This isn't really too bad, becasue it's however much I need/want to do to make sure the work gets done. If they had gone to mandatory overtime, that would suck. Also, it'll only last for a few more weeks.

Of course, in addition to that, it's going to be a very busy month socially.

This weekend is the release of D&D 4.0, so I'll be going out with friends to pick that up on Friday, as well as going to dinner with them. On Saturday, a friend is running demos at one of the local game stores as part of Game Day something or another. I wanted to go hit that. At 6pm, I'll be meeting some friends for dinner, and then at 8pm I get to go see the touring production of 'Wicked'. YAY! I am VERY much looking forward to this.

Next weekend is Father's Day and my dad will actually be in town. I'm hoping he comes in on Saturday, but I'm not sure yet. Monday the 16th, one of my cousins is getting married. I don't get why they couldn't have waited a little longer to get the place they wanted on an actual weekend day. It's not like they NEED to rush anything. She's already had two kids by the guy. Maybe she's afraid he or her parents will change their mind. Either way, the only day she could get the place for the wedding and reception was on a Monday.

The following Saturday is going to be tough. We're having the grave-side service for my mom. This was my uncle's idea, but somehow it's fallen on me to organize more than I wanted. I'm sure it'll all be fine, but still. I'm feeling very odd about the whole thing.

Then, on Wednesday the 25th, I leave for Origins Game Fair. Five straight days of gaming related geekery! Yay! I love big game conventions. This year I'll be going to both Origins and GenCon, but next year I'm going to have to cut down to just one of them.

So, in terms of real life, this month is going to be a busy one. In terms of Sim Stuff, I'm working on stuff, but I don't know how quickly I'll get anything out.

What a month--work, fun stuff, social obligations, family obligations--I can see where you'd feel swamped. We'll still be here waiting for the next installment of Pseudo and the BC, though of course I bet it isn't just me who is *dying* to know what happened next!

I'm jealous! I wanna go to GenCon. Or Origins. Or heck, any convention that I can actually drive to! But no money this year. *sadface*

I've heard some horrible stuff about 4th ed, and my fave webcomic, Order of the Stick, is not switching, so I don't know what to think. I'll probably stop by Game Day and run through a demo to see what it's really like.

Good luck juggling all the other stuff too. As much as we're on pins and needles for more BC and Pseudo, we understand.

My friend that is running the demo is actually one of the local volunteer reps for WOTC. He was pretty much considering leaving the program, but when they announced 4th ed last year, he figured he'd stick around and see how it was. If he didn't like it, then he'd leave. When he signed up to run a demo early, they sent him complimentary copies of the books early. So, at this point, he's seen the books and run a couple of demos.

He LOVES it.

The core concepts of the game stay the same, but the mechanics are definitely changed. He said it makes for a more fluid type of game, where you don't have the same downtime as you would in 3.5.

For my part, I'm really looking forward to trying it. Some of it will take some getting used to, but it looks like it'll make for some fun RP.

As for Order of the Stick, he's getting so close to the end of the story, I don't blame him for not wanting to switch. When I saw Rich Burlew at GenCon a couple of years ago, he said he definitely had an end in mind for the story, and that it was probably 3 or 4 years out.

I've had a couple of comments on the Sims2 page asking me when the next updates are going to be out. I definitely want to try and get BC2 and Pseudo 4.7 out by the end of the month, though. I'm just not sure I'll be able to swing it. :}

Eh, when you're ready, you're ready. I'm sure it's not because you don't *want* to put it out there. I've been dying to write the next bits of SC for a long time now, but I'm not going to rush through it. In fact, if I decide something like "huh, I think I'll send this little family on vacation," or "let's send those guys out on another date," I'm going to do it even if it tacks on a little extra time. :)

Plus I'm looking down the barrel of the end of the quarter, so I *really* know how it is.

Argh, I wish I were going to the Harry Potter convention now! I'm saving my pennies so I can go to Immeritus in 2010--that will be at the new theme park. Whoo.

Sounds like you have a really busy month up ahead. Hopefully you'll have time to enjoy all the fun stuff you are wanting to do. I also hope you have time to sim a little bit so that I'll have something to read, but that's just me being selfish :)

Hehe. It's okay to be selfish. I keep watching your blog and comments to see when the next Familiarity update will be coming out too.

You made a comment recently that really resonated with me. Something along the lines of 'There's more time between my updates, but less time passing in-game.' So very, very true.
