Moar Musik
Mar. 14th, 2008 03:26 amI think I did this right.
De (Fireflower) came up with the idea of making playlists of our music from the meme a week or so ago. I thought it was a rather nifty idea and then did nothing about it. Several folks have though, so I figured I should probably throw mine together.

Let me talk a little bit about these.
John Mayer, "Stop This Train" - This song is a pretty emotional one for me, especially after losing my mother back in January. If I hear it at the right point, it gets me to crying all over again. I've always been intrigued by songs that talk about the struggle of growing up and watching the world around you change. John Mellencamp said it in one of his songs, "Seventeen has turned Thirty-Five and I'm surprised that we're still livin'." This song by John Mayer takes it a step further and talks about wanting to go home again, and how we're 'one generation's length away from life out on our own'.
So afraid of getting older
I'm only good at being young
So I play the numbers game to find away to say that life has just begun
Had a talk with my old man
Said help me understand
He said turn 68, you'll renegotiate
Don't stop this train
Don't for a minute change the place you're in
Don't think I couldn't ever understand
I tried my hand
John, honestly we'll never stop this train
Rihanna, "Don't Stop The Music" - This one wasn't on my original list because I hadn't heard the album at that point, but now this one and the whole album is on heavy rotation on my ipod. I love me some good pop and this whole album is one I really enjoy. This song particularlly gets my feet going. It's a good bike song.
Feist, "I Feel It All" - I'd honestly never heard of Feist until I read an article that talked about the success of "1234" and how it was being used as in an Apple ad. I looked up the song and liked it, so the next time I was in the store (which happened to be a couple of days later), I picked up the cd. At first, I was really disappointed. The album didn't really grab me at all and there seemed to be only a couple of songs I liked. Then, the next thing I knew, I was listening to the whole album over and over again. It really grew on me.
Bruce Springsteen, "Devil's Arcade" - To be honest, when I put this song on my list, I really hadn't paid too much attention to the lyrics. Something about the music and the way he sings it really touched me. Now that I've started paying attention to the lyrics, I'm still not completely sure what he's singing about, but I think it's sex. I think. :)
All American Rejects, "Change Your Mind" - Someone (
theferrett) whose blog I follow recently posted about songs he really likes for Guitar Hero and Rock Band. One of the songs he mentioned was "Move Along" by All American Rejects. I immediately fell in love with the song and without a second thought, I went out and bought the cd. I'm really glad I did, because I like most of what's on the disk (I skip over the couple of slow songs). This song has probably become tied for my favorite with the title track itself.
Lifehouse, "First Time" - This is Elijah and Shelby's song (Sims Stuff). They're a very very long time from going in my game, so I don't 'need' a song for them, but right now this is it. I've always had a soft spot for the melodrama of Lifehouse's music, but this particular song really gets me.
We're both looking for something
We've been afraid to find
It's easier to be broken
It's easier to hide
Looking at you, holding my breath,
For once in my life, I'm scared to death,
I'm taking a chance, letting you inside.
Green Day, "Jesus of Suburbia" - I probably could have picked something a little shorter from 'American Idiot', but this is the one I get excited about when it comes up on my ipod. I've liked Green Day since 'Dookie' came out, but for some reason I dragged my feet on getting 'American Idiot'. I don't know why I waited. I pretty much love the whole album.
At the center of the earth
In the parking lot
Of the 7-11 where I was taught
The motto was just a lie
It says "Home is where your heart is"
But what a shame
'Cause everyone's heart
Doesn't beat the same
It's beating out of time
Lily Allen, "Knock'em Out" - This is one of the artists I've discovered because of the Sims. I'd never heard of her until she did 'Smile' for Seasons. I did a little bit of research on her and decided to take a chance on her album. I'm glad I did, because there's not a bad song on the disk. This one is one of my favorites. I like the back and forth of the lyrics.
So.. there you have it. My playlist and probably more information than you needed. :)

Date: 2008-03-15 01:29 am (UTC)I like "Change Your Mind", it's something I'd turn the radio up for, if I listened to the radio, which I don't, but you get the idea.
I've liked Green Day for a while... "Jesus of Suburbia"'s not an exception.

Date: 2008-03-15 05:47 am (UTC)A co-worker 'loaned' me some of his more recent stuff and something about this song grabbed me. I think it's definitely more the music than the words, but I also actually like the weathered feel to his voice. I do think the song is definitely one that is probably not for everyone.

Date: 2008-03-15 05:48 am (UTC)I didn't realize my roommate had it until she asked me to make a mix cd for her upcoming trip. She handed me the Rihanna cd and I immediately made myself a copy. The other song I really like is "Breakin' Dishes" :) I highly recommend it.
