I still haven't found quite the right frame of mind to get writing again, but I think I'm getting closer. At the very least, I have to get writing soon, or I'm going to get myself and my legacy into a tangled mess.

Usually I try and play to a certain point then stop. I don't play again seriously until I've written the updates I need to get written. I think of it as a carrot dangled in front of the mule technique. Usually it works pretty well, but with the last couple of weeks I let myself play a little more than I should have.

As it stands right now, I'm to a point where I HAVE to write and get moving before I can play again. There are major plotty things that need to be done before I can go forward with the actual game playing. Obviously, one of the big ones is Elijah's quest. He and Shelby have already thrown a wrench in my works with a lullaby I heard the last time I played them. I was thinking a simple tour of the family businesses would be some nice play time without forcing me to deal with the plotty bits. In the midst of an aspiration boosting date, I got an unexpected lullaby. On one hand, it makes me excited because I want to see their kids and the next potential heirs of the legacy. On the other, I needed to do the whole 'Raiders of the Last Expansion' plotline with them. There wasn't supposed to be a baby yet.

There's also some other major plotlines that I'm not going to discuss, but I can't play until they're dealt with. So, right now I'm at a standstill. I need to get the update written that I've got sitting on my desktop right now (which will cover up until graduation for Elijah, Aeric, Venus, Nathaniel and Jeremiah) and then get working on the wedding update. The wedding update should get me to the point where I can finalize the plotty stuff and get moving on actual game play stuff.

It's not so much that I've written myself into a corner as I've not written fast enough to let me play like I want to right now. Tonight and tomorrow I'll try and actually do some writing so I can get the update out. I know no one's pressuring me to get it finished, but I can't do anything else with my little sims until I get it and the next one out. *sigh* :)

If you'd rather just play the game, you could always just do like a side challenge or play with a family unrelated to the legacy for awhile, right? Don't get me wrong, I'm dying to read the next update, but if you're not really in the mood to write it...

I don't think anyone can blame you for not being in the right mindset to write, considering what's been happening in real life for you lately. I'll second what De said--why not just play a side challenge/family for a little while until you feel like you can write a good update again?

On the mini-challenge note...SimPE for BV is out and I know you said you wanted to replay the Orphan Challenge with the same characters once you had it. Why not do that? Don't feel any pressure to get an update out, at any rate.

Yeah, I kind of understand what you mean, though. If too much time goes by and things happen, it becomes tough to remember what the heck you did or you were going to do, and then it's harder to get going.

It's too bad we can't team up, though, because I love writing. For me, that's the fun bit. It's playing that drives me nuts. That, and sorting pictures.

Anyway, of course we love your writing, but we'll love it just as much whenever you're ready to share it.

I thought of that, but that puts me right back at the 'need to write' stage. The whole idea of replaying that challenge was to get enough pictures to do the story I wanted to tell. I may still do it at some point, but not right now.

It might be a fun project sometime to do a shared story - where I take the pictures and organize them, then give them to you to actually do the writing for. :) Might be interesting to take 20-50 slides, put them in order, and then zip up the images with the xml file and see what type of stories people put together. Hmmmm. That actually really gets me thinking about a fun 'challenge' type thing to do.

Hi it's Pen from boolprop. I just wanted to say that I totally understand the not wanting to write aspect. I'm having the same problem, although for very different reasons. I'm not letting myself play again until I write either. If you don't want to write you could always build a house for that special project you were planning. *hugs*

Take the time you need to get into the writing mindset, no one is going to *poke* you too much about it. I completely understand where you're coming from, but I'll state the obvious and say we'd all love to see an update. :)

Oh, I like Pen's idea of building. When I can't play until I update, and I don't feel like writing, I'll sometimes build something - a house for a graduating college student to move into, or a new community lot or whatever. It's fun, and doesn't involve the writing or playing.

And if you feel like playing, play someone that you don't intend to write for at all - do a little mini-challenge or just play a family or whatever. You get to play without the pressure to write anything from it. And when your mind gets back to the right place, just pick back up with your next legacy update. We'll all wait.

Oh, and I forgot to say - I like the idea of the writing challenge, too. You play, and I'll sign up to write a story for one set of pictures. :) I bet other people than just me and the Professor would sign up, too.

I think that would be really, really, REALLY fun, and I'd love to. Like I said, the writing is the relatively easy bit, though partly because I've planned it out. The worst of it is the time (an average chapter of about 110-115 slides takes me about four hours to write) and the discomfort of physically typing.

Yeah I would try it too. Don't know how good I would be at it, but it would still be fun. :-)
