Happy 2008 and Travel Ponderings
Jan. 3rd, 2008 03:43 pmHappy New Year everyone. Hope everyone had a nice New Years and holiday season with good food and family that wasn't too stressful.
I thought about doing a nice long post ruminating about 2007, but I'm not sure I have it in me. Suffice it to say that 2007 was a pretty good year. My job is going well. I still enjoy it and they're starting to give me more responsibility, so I must be doing something right. I got my car back on the road back in June, so I'm finally back on the road. Yay! I got to attend both Origins and GenCon last year and I'm planning on doing both again this year. They were both quite a bit of a fun.
My first dilema of the year is how to get to Providence at the end of this month. My dad has invited me out for a few days since he and his girlfriend got a condo in Newport for a week. While Newport in January isn't exactly my idea of a sunny holiday, I do adore my dad and would love the chance to get to spend some time with him. Unfortunately, I'm a bit torn on how to get there.
It'd cost me about $225 round trip to fly from here to Providence. That's not too bad, but it is more than it would cost to drive or take the train. I could drive, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with driving that far in winter on my own. It's about a seven-eight hour drive to Providence. Another option is taking the train. The train would go from here to NYC and then from there to Providence. That's about a ten and a half hour trip. I'm tempted to take the train because I haven't in forever and it's only about $150 round trip. But that's a looong ride. I'm just not quite sure which I want to do.
