I know I haven't really posted much lately at all. Life's been moving on and being pretty decent all things told. I got my old car back on the road in May (after four years) and things at work are still just fine. I've been addicted to Sims2 for a while, and I still have some regular RPG game groups I get together with. There's the gist of my life for the last few months. :)
This past week, I was at GenCon, which was a lot of fun. Last year I went with my friend Doug and we shared a hotel room with a couple of strangers. We rode with another gaming friend of mine from another town. The ride and the hotel arrangements really weren't particularly comfortable, but the experience as a whole was fun.
This year we got a hotel room ourselves that was agreed to be shared with three other friends. By sheer accident, the hotel I had signed up for cancelled its relationship with the GenCon housing bureau and they moved us to the hotel right across from the con for the same price. We also ended up with two floor squatters, giving us a total of seven people in the room. All but one of us snored, so night time was a symphony of sounds that often made me giggle when I was awake.
Leaving Rochester turned out to be tricky. We got halfway between Buffalo and Fredonia when I realized I had forgotten my badge at home. My friends decided we could turn arond and go back and get it, but it basically tacked three and a half hours onto the trip. I was pretty pissed at myself, but cest la vie. It was either go back, have someone send it out, or buy a whole new one. Feh.
We made it to Indy just fine, but when I went to get the hotel taken care of, I found out they wanted to put the entire cost of the room for four days on one credit card. I didn't have that kind of room on any of my cards and neither did the people I traveled with. Luckily, the girl flying in to join us could put it on her card. I was pretty peeved that the hotel didn't give that information up front and I didn't have it taken care of ahead of time.
Those were the worst two things that happened, and they were front loaded, so the rest of the con was fun. I played a bunch of RPGs, which made me happy. In fact, I was in a Shadowrun tournament where my table came in second. Woot!
Anyway, I'm babbling. I had a good time and I'm more than likely going again next year. Hopefully with a little more organization behind me. :)

Date: 2007-08-30 03:57 am (UTC)Next year I'll be prepared, though. If I decide to do both GenCon and Origins again, I'll have a better buffer monetarily. I also think they'll probably do Origins a little earlier. We'll see. :)
I'm just glad you had a good time. :)
