The Cage

My computer room is now home for a giant blue cage. This thing is big enough to fit my friends kids in easily. All three of them. Without squishing. It’s a huge space for a single chinchilla and Pippin is still adjusting. I’ll try and put some pictures up later today.

I actually got a $40 discount on it (so 1/5 off) because it had been a floor model and had a couple of scratches and dings. To be honest, I can’t find the scratches and the only ding I could find was one slightly bent cage bar that Rudy was able to bend back into place.

My only complaint about the cage is that the shelves are a little flimsy. The largest shelf bows in the middle slightly with just his wooden house on it. Of course, this cage has everything else I wanted. There were some cages out there (Quality Cages to be specific) that had awesome wooden shelves, but the spacing on the cage bars was too small. I wanted the larger openings so I could interact with the little fuzz ball easier.

What’s still a little overwhelming about the cage is that it’s so big. I knew it was a large cage. I think they say you can put up to four or five ferrets in it. It’s still different seeing it in person and actually in my home. I’ve really had to do some rearranging to try and get the computer room back up to snuff. If my damn computer desk weren’t so heavy, I’d probably do a huge overhaul and just switch the whole thing around. I still may do that.

Getting it and getting it put together on Saturday was a bit of an adventure since I was having people over that night. Talk about chaos. I was hoping to have the corn muffins all done before people arrived, but because of the cage, I was still in the midst of making them when the guests arrived. It wouldn’t have been too big of a deal except for three of these were new people.

Doug and I met some folks at the Geneseo convention that were interested in starting up a gaming group. We both liked them so figured we’d go for it. This was a bit of an ice breaker to introduce them to Scott who was also interested in playing, hang out a bit and decide what we were doing for the game.

Everything went swimmingly, but I was one tired puppy by the end of the night.

As a side note, the chili I made turned out really well. It was a bastardized blend of my mother’s recipe and[livejournal.com profile] pomr’s recipe. My mother would have never put wasabi in her chili.
