Well, I got to spend yesterday and today with my dad, which made me quite happy. While I wish we could actually spend Christmas together, I do love his visits.

Yesterday I dosed myself up with dayquil and tylenol and armed myself with cough drops. He came over and we exchanged gifts. He was thrilled with what I got him (a portable dvd player and a nice poker chip set), and I was thrilled with what he got me (a new dragon for the collection, a gift card for B&N, some dvds, and an MP3 player).

(Speaking of the MP3 player, it's been a little frustrating. It's an Olympus m:Robe, and while it's very sweet looking and the two sample songs sound very nice, I can't get it to work with the computer. The computer insists that there's no available space to transfer the pictures. The thing has 5gb, and there's nothing on it! Alas, I think I'm going to have to call their technical support line Monday night when I get home.)

After that, we drove up to Niagara Falls with some friends of the family. Had a nice lunch at the buffet, and then spent an hour in the casino. His luck was against him at the blackjack tables, and I couldn't find any slot machines that were particularly appealing. I lost about $20, but it was still fun. I was starting to get fuzzyheaded from the smoke, though (forgot they still allow smoking in those places), so he and I headed out.

We drove back to Rochester and went to Uno's for a quick dinner, and then hit the movie theater to see King Kong. We both really enjoyed it. I can see why both Naomi Watts and Kong himself are getting rave reviews. They did a wonderful job. I also didn't really mind Jack Black. I wanted to punch him a few times, but I didn't really feel like he was out of place like some reviewers did. After the movie was over, I turned to my dad and said, "There. We know the secret to how Peter Jackson lost 70 pounds. Now to just make our own blockbuster remake of a classic effects movie."

Today he picked me up and we hit the Steve and Barry store we'd heard about in what used to be Irondequoit Mall. The place is definitely a bargain, if you fit into their clothes. They didn't have anything in my size, and the couple of things dad tried on weren't to his liking. But I can see why people rave about the place.

It started snowing pretty heavy while we were in the store. Yesterday it was 60 degrees out, and today it was like a blizzard. Gotta love Rochester weather. Anyway, we hit the highway and drove out to the outlet mall in Waterloo. We both got some sweatshirts at the Big Dog store, I looked at some shoes in one shop, and then hit the candy shop. We grabbed a quick lunch in the food court and then hit the road.

We stopped by to visit Liana's grandfather, Stubby. No, I don't know why he's called Stubby. That's a bit of an impolite question. Eitherway, he's a nice old guy even if he is a little hard of hearing. Loves to ramble on about different things. We stayed there for about an hour, then headed on out to meet up with some other family friends at a restaurant for drinks and munchies.

All in all it was a good weekend. My dad's a good guy.
