1. What is it about the World Of Darkness as a setting that you don't like?

It’s actually not the setting that I dislike so much. I do think there are problems with the mingling of the different groups in WoD, but the stories and settings within each are still fairly interesting. I did burn out on it after SYE (though I have flirted with it since returning to MU*ing last year), but my problem with it was more the players and the way it’s handled in MU* settings.

There is a distinct lack of trust between staff and players that’s usually built into the very way the games function. The OOC Masq is often wielded like a blunt object, players are taken to task if they attempt to run plots on their own, and anything even remotely related to doing something interesting with powers or combat turns into a huge hassle with timestops.

And because it has been done this way for so long, the people still making WoD games keep doing it the same way, with only minor variations here or there. If someone were to make a WoD using the ideas I see used on CCM or some of the other games with hard systems, I would be there in a second. (Especially if they were using the –new- WoD.)

2. How would you go about bringing new blood into MUSHing?

There are other venues of online roleplaying out there, so those could be tapped, but the problem is making sure you’re bringing in quality instead of just quantity. I recently started reading a LJ community called ‘bad_rpers_suck’. It’s rather amusing in a way that doesn’t get quite as nasty as Snark or WORA do. It also touches on ANY type of roleplaying. I was unaware of how many journal/message board based RPs there are out there. I don’t think all of these people would necessarily work well in MU* settings, but everyone does have to start somewhere.

3. Whose work as a photographer inspires you?

One that stands out is actually Annie Liebovitz. I chose her for a project when I took photography in college. The professor looked down on Liebovitz a bit as being too commercial, but she still let me use her. I love her portraits. Even if she is extremely commercial, she has (or at least had) a way of capturing personality in her portraits that was always amazing in my mind.

4. Does having a digital camera make you lazy about composition and the like?

Oh hell no. Occasionally I’ll crop down in photoshop, but for the most part, I still put the same amount of effort into framing with the digital camera as I did with my SLR. In some ways, it’s almost easier since that little LCD screen helps give a better idea of the framing than the view.

5. What movie would you dig out/rent to cheer yourself up, and why?

Almost any movie will do it for me. I’ve got movies I consider favorites, but I don’t seek any particular one out for comfort. Also, there are so many movies out there I haven’t seen yet, I’d almost rather seek out one I haven’t seen yet, but am pretty sure I’ll like. When I want to cheer up, I do generally avoid heavy dramas, though. I go for lighter stuff or action movies. Popcorn movies of all kinds tend to make me happy.
